Hi,

I would like to relate to you a waste of time experience I had with Spybot and AVG.

Yesterday,I ran Spybot and it detected this virus or malware called "adware.win32/pricegong". After running program it said it could not fix problem and would I be interested in starting Spybot at bootup of computer. It ran a long time and there were no notifications about removing it. I reran it in normal mode and it detected it again and I pressed fix button as instructed and Spybot gave me the message it was removed. It was not. I then ran Microsoft security and it found it again and also said it removed it.

Today I ran Spybot again and it found another one called "win32.downloader.com". Again it said it couldn't remove it and would I be interested in running Spybot from boot up. Needless to say I clicked no.

Prior to running Spybot, I used AVG free version and it detected neither virus. Some people have the opinion AVG spreads spyware. I don't know. I chatted with AVG and they wanted me to D\l some file to check out my computer and send data back to them. I removed AVG from my Computer. I kepy spybot because it did atleast detect viruses.

The above viruses are nothing new and if you use google search, there is plenty of info on them.

Can anybody recommend a good virus remover, as I feel these free files other than Microsoft come with attached spywhere.

In my opinion There really is nothing free and its dangerous to d\l free files.

Neither were viruses.

These are trojans - adware.win32/pricegong & win32.downloader.com

I don't believe SpyBot S&D is an anti virus application. It may detgect
virus droppers but it is incable of removing malicious coded that has been
prepended, appended or cavity injected intto legitimagte files.

So the problem must be analyzed. What exactly is these anti malware
detecting as in trhe fully qualified name and path to the files that were
deemed malicious ?

ummm... that's not a virus or malware... that's a domain on the internet... it
is hosted on 208.87.35.103 which is owned by Secure Hosting Ltd. out of Nassau,
NP (New Providence in the Bahamas)... what you found there was a cookie... not
a virus or malware... there is a huge difference ;)

There is no real difference and I pretty much inferred what was meant vs
what was there.

I find it interesting you post a reply but fail to write to the points made
in the replies to you.

Basically the difference of the malware suffix name of .com vs. .gen is
insignificant.

Further to my post.

I have tried Norton Anti-virus (free trial), Avasti anti virus and Microsoft malicious anti-virus removal and PC cleaner from I think CNET web site, all failed to detect it.

Dave,

spybot files were corrupt. I reinstalled new version after a system restore to seven days earlier and it did not detect any dangerous Files.

No further replies needed. Thank you all.

ADDENDUM;-

I deleted Spybot from both my computers and I then ran some kind of free Microsoft Malicious software tool on both computers, which ran over three hours and it detected no problems.

Prior to deleting Spybot, some files wouldn't run. I thing Spybot was incompatible with my computer. It did have some win32downloader.gen in it.

I use only Microsoft security Essentials now and am very satisfied.
