I visit newsgroups to either gain knowledge or provide some, whenever
possible. There is a noticeable trend in this, and some other
newsgroups, where, rather than finding meaningful answers or help,
there appears to be a considerable amount of bickering, bolstering and
personal attacks.

I would appreciate it if the folks here who engage in the above
behaviour would do so somewhere else.

I have no axe to grind with anyone of the posters in this or any other
newsgroup, I would just appreciate it if everyone would respect the
purpose of this newsgroup...ask for help or provide assistance.

I am posting this as a request, but not a request to be flamed :-)

Yup, that's what happens on unmoderated Usenet groups. You can't keep
the jerks out.

I suggest you explore how to use the filtering abilities of your news
client.

Nice request but don't hole your breath! Suggest you take the
suggestion of Wolf K and use filters, filters and more filters.

Hi George.

People tend to get what they give in technical forums. If you come across
as an arse, you'll be treated like one. On the other hand, if you have
questions, ask away. :)

WTF??? Dustin is not a Troll. Yet if you have an issue then take it to email. You
Bear are really starting to look like the ars and the Troll that you claim for
others. Move on and let it go. You are a nice guy and let it go.

lurking? in a sense i suppose. i long ago subscribed to the rss feed
that google produces for this newsgroup (and a.c.v.), but my busy
schedule and the 'noise' coming out of here often cause me to ignore
the group.

Yep. I'm a volunteer on the Mageia linux qa team, so I'm mostly
dealing with mail lists now, instead of usenet.
