iTunes update blocked by Antivir Premium 2013

[Mr. Man-wai Chang]

Error message "Network connection was reset" whenever I tried to run
iTunes app update. Disabling Antivir Premium 2013 fixed the problem
immediately!

Solution?

Either Whitelist it or disable AntiVir and perrform the update trhen
re-enable AntiVir.

adjust your antivir premium to allow itunes... this is normal tuning for many

OK... Does this happen to other anti-virus scanners?

Also, I barely remembered that Antivir's free version didn't block
iTunes... I am not too sure...

Yes, it does. Since I do nolt know what exactly is being blocked, I can't
be more specific.

It is iTunes or is it Apple Softwaree Update ?
Is it the application or the Internet copnnection.

My initial thoughts arfe it is Apple Softwaree Update and how it connects to
get updates.

Whitelisting itunes.exe and ituneshelper.exe doesn't seem to help.

What puzzled me most was that there was NOT a single entry in Antivir's
logs, and there was no pop-up saying Antivir had blocked a program.

I think we could call this a serious bug, that Antivir did something
without leaving evidences. :)

Rootkit is not strictly a malware term. You may find that rootkit
technology becomes an antimalware tool too.

I'm not saying that this is the case here though.

Anyway, Antivir should have raised an alert that it blocked iTunes from
doing something....

It got Mail Protection and Web Protection to monitor some ports, not a
full-blown firewall!

Yesterday night, I disabled Web Protection and iTunes could update
without problem. Unless I remembered incorrectly, that trick didn't work
2 days ago.....

iTunes did run, but when I hit "Update" in the library/apps screen, it
reported error "Network connection was reset" after downloading the
latest apps. Antivir did NOT log any error nor show an alert.

Disabling Web Protection now helped. But I wonder whether there was a
better way.
