Can anyone confirm whether this line (or something very similar) was
ever used in a dogbert cartoon?

I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that I'd seen the subject line
used by the Dogbert character, but it seems to have originally been used
by Peter Steiner as an adage which began as the caption of a famous
cartoon published by The New Yorker on 5 July 1993.

I don't doubt the truth of this, but it seems it could have been quoted
by dogbert simply as a reference to the original Peter Steiner cartoon.

John,

I can confirm that that line has never appeared in any of the official
Dilbert comic strips.

Sorry,

Thanks, Tad. That's rather a pity, I just _know_ I saw a very Dogbert
style cartoon where that phrase was used. The "original" New Yorker
cartoon looks nothing like how I remember seeing it.

I guess this must be a classic case of "False Memory" (a very real
phenomena in the case of eye witness testimony). I'll just have to
accept this as being yet another one of life's little mysteries. :-(

Good line though. It will probably show up in a strip now. I think it
would fit Bob or possibly Ratbert's personality more than Dogbert.
