I imagine this call to echo through a vast empty hall...
Or maybe I am mistaken and there are some other people around here, that
I just haven't seen yet.

So I am just wondering if this newsgroup is still alive? Or just in a
very deep sleep as nobody is waking it!?

Well, so let me try to waken it for a moment.

Anybody who's around these parts read David Mazzucchelli's "Polyp
Asterios" and care to join me in a discussion about that specific book?

There used to be something called
"rec.arts.comics.alternative", which was a good place for this
kind of discussion. It was nuked by the people in
rec.arts.comics.misc a few years ago. I think this was created
around then, but never got that much traffic.

Sorry, can't help you... didn't Mazzucchelli do _100
Bullets_ or _Stray Bullets_ or something like that? Is he a
writer, artist or both? I haven't read any of his stuff... what
did you like about _Polyp Asterios_?

Ah, there is someone here after all! Nice to meet you.

I don't know if he worked on "100 Bullets", but I think he is best know
for working on "Batman: Year One" with Frank Miller. Before that he has
worked for Daredevil and other Marvel stuff. But since a few years he is
mostly doing indie comics.

"Polyp Asterios" is his new graphic novel which uses a distinct style:
He is drawing each character differently in order to symbolize their
character.
It is an interesting experiment and I would have been curious to know
what other people might have thought about that.

But really, there is no need to talk about this precise comic book.
Actually mentioning Mazzucchelli was nothing but an attempt to start off
a conversation of any kind at all.
