An early issue of RAW (or was it Taboo? I think it was RAW) had a comic based
on lyrics from a Robyn Hitchcock song, although this may not be what you're
looking for. I know that R. Crumb illustrated (and maybe wrote) some comic
histories of famous blues musicians. There's been comics about Prince, Ozzy
Osbourne, Kiss and numerous heavy metal bands that I've seen in mainstream
venues, but they've always looked pretty much like trash, though I've never
read any.

Hope it's a help.

: Great stuff, but I wanna know how to find this Cramps stuff! I'd pay
: real money for that. :-) Calibre's Negative Burn has been running Alan
: Moore's lyrics illustrated, not quite the same thing, but I understand
: that a cd of recordings will be released in the future. A couple

: them The Grateful Dead comix from Kitchen Sink have some great things
: in them, IMO. Strips by the likes of Mary Fleener, Reed Waller, Nina
: Paley, Tim Truman, and on and on (and I don't even like the Dead :-).
: Truman also did a Carlos Santana comic recently, I think. And then
: there is that entire line of Rock comics that Jacob mentioned, I think
: it's mostly metal-type stuff, but I haven't really looked at them.
: Also, the recent Gaiman/Zulli "Last Temptation of Alice (Cooper)"
: comic from Marvel. Kyle Baker recently did one of a rap group that
: came with a cassette (KRS-One? something like that), and the review
: strips he did with Evan Dorkin are in Instant Piano.

Well, there's the Henry Rollins strips in issues 2, 3 and 4 of Pat
Moriaty's Big Mouth. Not exactly about rock, but hilarious. He might
also have an upcoming story by Robin Hitchcock.

Early issues of Joe Sacco's Yahoo series had to do with a rock band,
although I don't know which.

And there's "The Wild Man Fisher Story" in the last several issues of
Real Stuff.

Just "The Last Temptation". Still waiting for issue #3. No word on the
delay.

"Break the Chain"? I hope that's right. Gotta be careful with the creator
occasionally posting.

"Critics at Large," I think. They're in Dork #1. Some good stuff from both
Baker and Dorkin. I especially liked their first visit to the CBGB and the
lone slammer.

>Surfin' Bird!

Well, everybody's heard about the bird.

I always thought that the Skank Kid from the back of the Circle Jerks
albums would have made a fine comic book character. For that matter,
does anyone remember the Ramones comic strip from Punk magazine?

Also, Marcellus Hall, from NYC band Railroad Jerk, has a strip in the D&Q
vol.2 #1. The strip is amusing, if not great, but RR Jerk are one of the
rockinest bands out there.

There is a guy named Jack Logan who is a musician and a comic artist. He
put out a series of oversized comics about rock people. The first issue
was PETE BUCK COMICS or something like that. I can't see a series title
on it other than LIL' TEE PRESENTS:, but I'm looking at the issue called
GIBBY GOES TO FLORIDA. It's about the Butthole Surfers and their quest to
do a show completely covered in bees. It's demented and brilliant stuff.
This same guy also drew the comic that was included in the Coolies rock
opera DOUG.
