Help Please - New to the field of stamps -- and way over my head

I reciently inherited my families stamp hoard (passed down for a few
generations) and some are cataloged (about 2%) But the rest are in
tins, boxes and large envelopes. I know the first step is to orginise
them as best as possible but how should I store them? There is no
way I can afford the stamp albums I see for sale all over the internet
(ranging from 11.00 to upwards of 70.00) since the volume of stamps is
so great (well over 1,000 stamps). Some are still in the origional
booklets (should I leave them in this?) while others are just tossed
in boxes. Many are used while others (appear) to have no (is
canselation the right word?) post marking on them, should I seperate
the used stamps from the unused?
Also what type of book(s) should I keep them in? I do have quite a
few old 3 ring binders, can I just go to walmart (or the like) and get
blank photo album pages and put the stamps in these (these if I
remember correctly have a bit of adheasive backing to hold the photo
and clear cover in place)?
I haven't decided yet If I want to continue with the collection or
just get it orginised and sell it. But either was as it sits now it
is just a bunch of boxes with stamps (most from USA but a box or two
have other countries as well). I have read some of the info avaliable
on the web and have learned about soaking the stamps to get them off
the backing (thank goodness for the internet).
Any information/help you can provide is much aprishiated. Just
looking at the boxes and boxes of unsorted stamps sends me up stairs
to watch TV.
