NSM CITY IV won't scan

When I plug it in it comes up then starts counting up on keyboard. When it gets to 8 or 9 (error code says mech) it comes up error push C button. It won't cancel error. I have to unplug it to get it to start over. Do these have a scan sw. like all the others.? If so where is it?
