Hi Everyone,

Looking to see what everyone is using for a replacement capacitor on
the selector button unit of a Rowe MM1
The specs are 5 MFD 400w NPV NON POLAR. I have looked and cannot find
a replacement.

Brian, you can use two standard 10mfd caps with either the positive or negative terminals connected in series to make a 5 MFD BTW: That 400 is 400 Volts.

You can also make up this value by paralleling capacitors that are non-polarized such as mylar or others.

That cap controls the length of the pulse that punches the pin on the search unit.

The voltage rating is a bit of overkill in that the circuit is only approx 28 VDC but there is a large kick back spike of a couple hundred volts when the circuit disconnects after punching the pin.

Get two 10uf/200V caps and hook them positive to positive (or neg. to
neg.) - this will produce a non-polarized capacitor of 5ufd @ 400WV
(Working Volts).

Look up caps in parallel and series to learn about this useful trick
(and others).

Hi Rob,

Perhaps a snubbing diode across the coil would help...if AC then two
diodes, anode-to-anode (or is it cathode-to-cathode?).
