I don't understand "wont hold the front up"
With lift arms, dismantling, cleaning, lubrication (to lubricate the
plastic part in the centre of the hub of the arm, that grabs the
record, only use "Mr Sheen" furniture polish (spray it on, and wipe/
polish it off, don't leave any residue) or powdered graphite. The
locating pins on the side, use grease or a suitable oil.
You don't need the battery , it only holds the "popularity" settings
and coin totals, credits when machine turned off etc.
Everything else will work without battery, if you don't need these
functions at home.
If you replace the battery, don't use the shitty Nicad,
use a 1/2 AA lithium and remove the charging resistor.
i am talking about the front door. when you lift it up theres a ram on
each side that is supose to hold it up until you pull it back over
center then it lets it down slowly. apparently my arms are weak.
thanks norm
3 things you can do,
1> Cut a section of U shaped aluminium channel or rigid thick wall
electrical conduit (cut a slot in the side, or remove strut, slide
conduit over it, and replace strut.) about 10" long and use it as a
prop (sit it over the
shaft to prop the door open). We do this with all our juke boxes, but
with older machines with plastic framed front doors, the plastic tends
get small cracks in it with age, so if you do it on one side only,
there is a small risk that the plastic could crack right through from
the pressure of the warping action that will occur.)
A stick or cut down pool cue will also do this job.
2> Go to a place that re-gases "automotive gas struts" (as these
things are called here) and get them reconditioned.
3> buy new ones from an automotive or similar supplier. Rowe may still
sell them, IIRC they all seem to be a standard length in Rowe jukes.
You would have to check with local suppliers, but 2 and 3 might be a
bit expensive.
4> be very careful removing these struts, that lid is MUCH heavier
than it seems when struts are removed - even if they are too weak to
hold the lid up.
I would lie the machine on the floor its back, carefully open the lid
( I put it near a wall so the open lid can rest against the wall when
open and remove the struts that way.
I put a couple of bricks or similar under the machine near the top so
you have space to get your hands under to get a good grip on it to get
it back upright again.
Remove the mechanism before you lie it down.
