I think what this means is that he stole the conterfeit beanies. Don't buy
these stolen items. Even though he was suckered into buying them. He's
just as wrong for trying to re-sell these beanies. The right thing to do is
for him to report this matter to the police.

Do the right thing bro. Turn the matter over to the postal fraud
authorities.

Hold on a minute Dogger,
I DID report him to the TY co., and they were shipped by UPS therefore
no postal fraud. I posted warnings to the group about this guy the
minute I saw they were counterfeit. It was here he was posting his
bears for sale. Claimed his mother made regular trips to China and
brought back "genuine" TY beanies. He lives in Germany, so I guess I
should have layed out another $20 or so to send them back to him on
top of the $20 stop payment charges from my bank. Maybe you should ask
the group how many of them were ripped off by Marcus Heers. From the
e-mails I recieved from about 2 dozen people, only 4 or 5 paid by
check which they promptly stopped after opening their packages. I had
only ordered $60 in bears from him, but there are several others that
ordered Britannias and Maples from him and paid the UPS drivers in
cash. I didn't steal anything from him, I offered to send them back
if he sent the postage. Never heard from him again.
I'm not asking for the world, just trying to reecover what I have
spent at the bank and there are people that collect the counterfeits
as novelties.

How on earth do you know that the person who sold to you didn't get these
these beanies from got taken before? How do you know that the person you
sell to isn't going to rip of others. Most collectors know that you cannot
buy "genuine" Ty beanies in China, they are seconds or counterfeits.

I agree. He says he stopped payment on the check, so didn't pay for the
Beanies, but he didn't return the merchandise either. You can't have it
both ways, refuse to pay for the items, then try to make money off
selling them.

It's interesting that the earlier posting states that he stopped payment
on his check when he got the package and decided these were
counterfeits. So, since he didn't actually pay anything for them, there
is no expenditure to "recover." The items were neither returned to the
seller as unsatisfactory, nor turned over to the postal or Customs
authorities as counterfeits. So, now we are invited to buy them from
someone who paid nothing for them? I don't think so.

It usually costs $10.00 to stop payment on a check here in the US. So, I
gather he wants to get his $10.00 back. Hey, I'll pay $10.00 for the damned
things so that I can destroy them and no one has to worry about those
counterfeits. If he doesn't go for that then he is trying to make money off
of those stolen counterfeits. That makes him worse than the original
person, the other person was trying to sell counterfeits, he's trying to
sell counterfeits that he cheated that person out of.

$10 for a stop payment? I had to do one last month for a
bill that got lost and hadn't shown up at the company in
nearly 6 weeks. First one I'd done in at least 10 years.

Mine cost me $20 bucks! (BankBoston)

Don't jump too quickly, though. When BayBank and
.......whoever it was....... merged, I got to retain my
account exactly as it was from the beginning ($8 a month
fee, unlimited transactions at no charge both in person and
through their own machines, no charge for check writing, no
minimum balance required on any account, etc.). I've been
waiting for the other shoe to drop on that ever since the
LAST merger and nothing's happened. (Knock on wood.)

I'm more concerned that my branch could be "sold off", and
my account with it! :-(

Yes, but I have been thinking about going to US Trust anyhow either that or
Northmark. I like the availability of Fleet ATM's, but I rarely go to ATM's
beyond my normal bank. The other two banks are pretty convenient and US
Trust has a no fee checking account.

Dana and I have a joint account at Family Bank. It's also
"no fee". It may have some branches somewhat near to you
but I'm not sure just how near.

A major convenience for us re: it is that it has a branch
INSIDE the grocery store, not just a machine! So he can
cash a check if the machine's down, etc. on the spot.

I've kept my BayBank account mainly for the huge number of
branches in the network re: teller machines.

That is pretty handy, is that Shaw's? I think in the last 10 years I have
used an foreign ATM, not my main branch's, maybe 5 times. Of those, only 1
was a Fleet. Instead of paying my bank's monthly fees just to save on ATM
fees, I'll just pay the fee and forget it. Thanks for the advice. Too bad
they don't pay interest in beanies.

Nope, it's a Shop & Save (Hannaford store).

I do 99% of my banking on the phone now. Having direct
deposit means never really having to go "to the bank"
unless you want to pick up some cash out of the machine, so
I use the phone a lot to move money and check which checks
have cleared, etc.

Have debit cards become "the norm" with Fleet? When the
banks merged they "replaced" all the old teller cards with
"teller/debit" cards and I raised cain on that. I called
them right up and said send me a REGULAR card -- I DO NOT
want a debit card. And they complied.

A lot of people may love the debit cards, but I'm not one
of them. When they first came out they charged you like
.75 per use, and I'd be darned if I used them that way
(that was on top of the monthly fee, BTW).

Yes, debit cards do seem to be the norm at Fleet. I don't mind using it
like a credit card instead of a check, that's pretty handy. I can see why
you didn't like them at first at .75 a transaction. I get them for no fee
(yes, it is a recurrent theme with me).

Nope, Northern Mass. There are a few Hannaford stores in
this area. They opened a "Sun Foods" store in Lowell MA a
few years ago, then bought a chain called Alexander's and
renamed it Shop & Save. I knew they were based in Maine,
though.

Nope, mine's the worst! I get charged $5.00 ANY TIME I need a teller's
assistance. I get charged if i use the night deposit, because a teller
opens it... I get charged if I go inside the bank for any reason... I
get charged if I call... My bank was bought out just after I got new
checks, and I'm sure not going to throw away $40 worth of checks =( so
I'll stay until I use up a least part of the checks I paid for. Here's
the worst part... after I bought my checks, I went in a week later
(right after they added all these fees) because my check info was wrong.
I was charged $5.00 to hand a teller my checks to have them correct
their mistake!
The only good thing is, I have unlimited use of the ATM machine for
free.

If Fleet's the worst, then Norwest (I live in Minnesota) has GOT to be a
close second. You usually have to end up spending about $5 for a cash
withdrawal at a non-Norwest ATM machine (the machine'll charge ya, then
Norwest'll charge you again) - they won't DO ANYTHING for you - they don't
trust squat....tried paying for my car payment with my payroll check with
the rest to be given to me in cash - mind you, this was when I worked for
Traveler's Insurance, which is in cahoots with Citibank, and if they don't
have money, then no one does.....they're like, nope you have to deposit it,
wait til the funds are secure, then you have to come back another day and
request in person to pay your car payment and then we'll think about giving
you some cash......and after I got smart and closed my account with them, I
went back to the bank a day or so afterward (hadn't gotten a checking
account anywhere else yet) to cash in some coins, and they said since I
didn't have an open account with them that it would cost me a $6 fee to cash
in the coins....the coins I had weren't even WORTH $6 - I would have had to
pay them money to count the coins....jeez - just about any other bank with
cash them in for free even to a non-account holder.

Norwest is pathetic, I think.

We sure do. It used to be that you had no choice but to
buy your checks through the bank, and a "lot" of 200 checks
could go for as much as $20 or more. Now, though, many
outside companies produce them for much cheaper prices (say
$5 for package of 200, plus a small amount for shipping).

Checks are sold in lots of 200, either 25 or 40 count per
booklet. (The 40s are relatively new -- have only seen
that one one order I've made so far.) Some companies do
25s, others 40s.

I don't have to pay for my checks as long as only one box per statement

I know what you mean, but as you said, as long as you stay on them, you
don't get hit with those fees. I'm good at arguing with them, LOL. You DO
have to keep an eye on them. I've been with this particular branch from
Arlington Trust to Shawmut and now to Fleet. I am totally sick of these
mergers though. You don't get a chance to figure out which bank is better
before it merges with the bank you decided was crap.

You don't???!!!!

We get free check registers to write down transactions etc, but the
actual checks get quite expensive. Even the blah, icky, plain ones are
close to $20 for 500.

No, they just send us a cheque book in the mail when they know we're getting
low on them. They must check the numbers on the cheques as they come in to
see when we need a new one. I've got about 6 in the drawer because I keep
losing one, starting on the next, then finding the first one again!

Yes. The banks charge ridiculous amounts but you can order them from
companies that make those checks for much cheaper after you get the first
one. The bank charges $20 for 100 checks, but the check companies give you
800 for $20. You just need to send a check and a deposit slip and they make
it up.

Unless you get the duplicate checks - then they're a box of 150 for slightly
more than the singles :)

I NEVER buy checks from the back - from an independent check printer I can
get about three boxes for the price of one of the NON-designer boxes I get
from the bank. It's well worth making the switch.

Yeah, it sucks.....I laughed at them, left, and walked into the bank next
door, and they didn't even ask me if I had an account, they just took the
coins, gave me the paper money, and I was on my way. Norwest prolly charges
you for even thinking their name....good lord I'll prolly have a bill coming
to me *LOL*

Uh OH, I sure hope they aren't listening June! Now they may think it is
perfectly acceptable to make you pay for those paper documents. <G>
