While browsing Ebay this morning on "Pastel Peace", I ran across several
auctions from different people who all remarked on the fact that the
Peace they were selling had an inner tush stamp number of #102. I
looked at pics on some of those bears and they were certainly pastels.

I went to the shelf and got down the Pastel Peace I got from Kris and
checked his tush tag -- HE has a #102 on it!

Any speculation? The people on ebay were sometimes referring to it as
"Dye Lot #102". As I posted earlier today, I had always figured the #
on the tag was a QC number....but now I am starting to wonder.

Hi Kim,
After reading your post I checked my pastel Peace. The number is also
#102. I also have the regular bright Peace and the number on his tag is
#102. What does it mean? I'd never even noticed the number inside the tush
tag!
Thanks!

Did you just recently buy it? I remember when they first chaged Peace's colors
and they all started out VERY light, even whitewashed with hardly any color at
all. Those were my favorites.

I just looked at my Peace, that I recently bought, he's not pastel, and the #
inside of of his tag is 115.

You made me look!! :)

I checked my Pastels and they are all lot 102. I also have some non Pastel
Peace that have lot 102. I guess that your theory is half right anyway.

Well, here's what I have come up with so far:

I searched 90 current listings at Ebay that I got from using the
keywords "Pastel Peace". Of those 90, 15, or 1/6th, specifically
referenced tush tag #102 as being a "Summer/Whitewashed Peace". A
number of those ads had great pics of the gorgeous bear that was being
sold, and it was a fantastic, light, "washed out" Pastel Peace.

As I said earlier, I checked the one I got from Kris this morning. When
I came home, I checked the one I got from Dawn, and it also has the
#102.

Then, for the heck of it, I checked one I got from another source at
about the same time -- a VERY bright, all turquoise-fronted Peace. And
HE also has #102.

In reading through the descriptions that referenced #102, one of two of
them did mention that "later #102s were "brights" ".

So.....I emailed the two mail people who had the Pastels listed, and
asked them if they could shed any light on it.

One seller said, (excerpt from mail):

"When I first started getting Peace bears from this summer, I noticed
the 102 and didn't think anything of it. Out of curiousity, I kept
looking while I was collection. Towards fall and later, I noticed the
numbers were changing to higher numbers.

After talking with others (like you are doing) it is general opinion
(but not a definitive answer from TY) that the gorgeous summer pastel
bears all have the 102 mark, thinking it is a dye lot number. And the
ugly new pastel peace have 115!!

However, also like you, I have been noticing some bright bears with the
102. So I am just as confused as you."

The second person had just heard about #102 from other sellers, but is
also interested to hear more if we turn up something.

So I'm going to keep looking. This almost sounds like the beginning of
an "Urban Legend" about my buddy Peace! LOL

Maybe you mean Mary Beth's Beanie World Magazine? Far as I know, Beanie
Mom (Sara Nelson) still only has the web site but contributes to Beanie
World.

My confirmed "pastels" are very light, and I've seen Peaces since then
(that I gave away as Christmas presents) that were "not bright ones" but
none were so pale as the others. I gave one to a friend so can check
the tush stamp next time I visit him...didn't think to look before that.

I'll keep working on this and post anything else I may find out on it.

Yeah, in the course of these conversations I've heard #115 being
referred to as a "non whitewashed/washed out pastel". Now what the heck
does THAT mean? A brighter pastel???

Tonight on Ebay I saw someone's pic of a "pastel" Peace that had this
HUGE (and I do mean HUGE) brown swirly on the back of its head. It
nearly covered that whole piece of material! They made a joke of it
being an "Army" Peace because much of the rest of the back of the head
was green (camouflague). Much as I like Peace bears, I sure didn't care
much for that one. And they called it "pastel"!?!?!?

I have 3 peace bears and 2 of them have #102 and the other one don't have a
#. Could it be a fake? or was it just not stamped? The coloring is a bit
lighter and it seems to be shorter than the other 2. Can someone help?

Yes, it was the Beanie World Mag. (Mary Beth's) sorry, it was the first one
I bought. My bear I purchased for $18 dollars about a month ago, secondary
market. He told me it was a Pastel. I have seen the others since and those
are dark and more brilliant, mine is simply washed out, with a lot of pink
and light greens (mint) and blue...no brown at all. Mine does not look like
my (no hang tag) Garcia...(I know dumb, dumb and dumber, but I did not know
the tag was important back then!) My Garcia is very dark and very
bright/brilliant. The tush tag definitely says 101 (not 102) on the inside.
I think it is really prettier than Garcia.
Please let me know if you find out anything. Thanks

Sigh, the news server's at it again. I haven't seen any of the followup
messages I've posted to my original post -- have they been seen
elsewhere, I wonder?

I will continue to look around to see what I can find out. Do you still
have that issue of Beanie World? If you do, I'd appreciate it very
much if you could post a "synopsis" of what was said about the
numbers...I haven't gotten a copy since Oct. I think.

My Peace bears with the stamp read as follows. Pastel #102, pastel #115,
and super bright #119.
The #102 is a bit lighter then the #115. I got the #102 in early summer,
the #115 last week and the #119 when the oval stamps were first
introduced in early summer I think. I have Six Peace by the way and I
would have 100 if I could find them at retail. The oldest being a fourth
generation has the most brown.

Thanks for the post from Beanie World's story on #102. I am going to go
through all of my Peaces this weekend (20 of them, purchased from late
April 98 through Feb. 99) and will give you a "rundown" of what I have,
just to see what's what.

Hey, it's about time I did a listing of them, anyway! <g>

One other note about "pastel Peaces" -- I did a trade with someone
recently and we got to talking about Peace. She told me, "Go and look
at the fabric itself on your pastel one and compare it to an older one.
The new one is less 'nappy' -- looks more smooth, more like Sherbert's
material."

I went and looked, and she was RIGHT! So I'll include "fabric
description" in my rundown as well.

FYI, The original Sherbet has purple and pastel Peace does not.
