Haven't you ever seen the footage of the big "Disco Sucks" rally, held
(I think) in Yankee Stadium in the late 70's?
They dynamited a huge dumpster or dumpster-like object full of disco
LPs. Looked like 10,000 or more, you betcha.

I'm pretty sure that was Chicago. Middle of a double header. Rumor has it the
fans were pelted with flaming vinyl, and the game was cancelled because of the
crater left behind in the field. ron
sgtpepper
I thought it was the Cubs.
The crate/dumpster was blown up.
The 2 guys were Steve Dahl & Gary Myer
I have video of it that I got drom this weirdo who worked for
Steve Dahl & Gary Meyer at the Loop in Chicago.
Dahl was the mastermind of the "Disco demolition" that happened
at Kiminsky Park in 1979. Dahl & Meyer came into the field into
a Jeep dressed in combat gear screaming about how "Disco Sucks"
and set off that dumpster. It was a sight to see,
Flaming album covers, jagged chunks of vinyl flying into the stands.
and Harry Carry going apeshit the entire time
(say "HOLY COW!" 25 times in the next 5 minutes)
than the Cubs had to forfeit the game (if I remember correctly).
Dahl and his compadre ran for their lives 2 minutes
after they set off the dumpster.
It was a specticle,
If Dahl had any balls he would do it again for Techno and Rave.
It's hilarious. The whole place is in total mayhem. It's like the
Italians when they got hold of Mussolini at the end of the war, the
crowd is just eating all that disco vinyl alive.

hey no wonder disco lps are so expensive and hard to find now!
lets hope it was 10,000 copies of KC & the Sunshine Band.
I got the opertunity to see THAT happen
living here in this DUMP called South Floriduh.
I watched Tone Distributors go down in flames in 1982.
Tone was the warehouse and main office of
TK Records in Hialeah Florida.
More than 10,000 KC records got torched, try 50,000.
To me that was the end of the "Disco" era.
My wife personally knows an individual from college who in recent years-
-get this, no shit, and faint of heart go away NOW--caught clap of the
throat courtesy of KC in the back of a rented limo.
Watch your mouths (no pun intended)---Disco is out there getting
revenge!!!

I could have bought all of Rick Finch's personal belongings including
Multi-track tapes to all the KC albums when the moving company who was
holding Finch's stuff auctioned it off because he could not afford to
pay his moving bill. I hear horror stories about KC all the time, I
bump into some of the Ex-Sunshine Band members time to time. One of the
vintage clothing stores has a original 70's KC & The Sunshine Band band
uniform that would make you gag, a purple rhinestone encrusted jumpsuit
with elephant flares with the bands logo embroidered on the back. One
of the Sunshine Band members sold it for peanuts because he was broke.
KC still tours but with none of the original members. His band are just
a bunch of guys who work for cheap, and later on will put his name on
their resumes for that all-mighty high paying cruiseship gig on
Discovery/Sea Escape. That sped-up guitar that was his trademark gets
on my nerves. He was South (cough gag retch) Florida's token god poster
boy before Gloria de-throned him. KC is now doing adds and concerts for
the Thunderbird Flea Market in Sunrise. The T-Bird was a great source
for carts untill it was taken over by sleezebags and Riff-Raff who sell
Bootleg Hip-Hop clothing, Sealed VHS boxes filled up with newspapers,
and faux African/Haitian art to curious Canadian tourists.

Yeah!
Now it's refered to as Dance/Techno/Freestyle/House/Jungle.
It still sounds like Disco but it now goes under a different name.
I came down with a bad case of homophobia after a liason with Ted Nugent!
It was the Disco-Demolition, at the old Comiskey Park in Chicago. It
happened
during the pause between games during a White Sox-Tigers double-header. The
whole thing was sponsored by WLUP-FM DJ Steve Dahl. The damage to the field
was so severe, the White Sox had to forfeit the second game of the
twin-bill.
I remember, I WAS A Tiger fan then.
