Weekly Diary Tjird Semester #1

textbooks today. The Art History goes a good 10 pounds and is over
2000 pages thick. It will cover two semesters though and it will be
about the only one I don't sell back even though it ran $100.00. The
other two weren't chep either but they cobined dont' weigh s much as
that sucker! Its a good book though but to do the reading in it I will
have to sit down and layy it flat in fron of me to read. Its to darn
heavy to hold in hands and read! My math is a new set up and it is a
highly interactive courrse with group work and it is practical math
which I actually excel at. One of the in class questions yesterday was
how many quarters would it take to equal the height of the Empire
State Building! That is actually a practial math question for you do
not need an algebraic or sume such mathmatical tomfloolery to figure
it out. Just sime multiplcation knowledge. Another was to figure out
howmany solutions betwwen 40 and 90 in whole numbers you could come up
with using 1994. You were allowed to use any and all simple math you
wanted in it. Simple math, add, subtract, multiply and devide! One
group came up with 22, the group I was in came up with 11. Iam going
to enjoy that class as well as the Art History, 2 D design, and Intro
to Art. The only bugaboo will be the Sociology and since I am talking
it again with a different instructor maybe enough will get through my
foggy brain to pass it this time.
Since I will not be carrying all the books art one time ever again I
won't becoming home exhausted and unable to concentrate to study any
more. Tonight I am and I've already had an 1.5 hour nap and still
nothing I tried to read made semse so am taking the night off and
doing my studying when I get up in the AM.
That Was Tuesday! The really bugabear is going to be Wedneday and
Thrusdays but for two different reasons!
Wednesdays are a ten hour day with two classes spaced four hours apart
, practical solutions in math at 1:15 and ending at 2:30 and then
Intro to Sociology at 6:30 ending at 9:30! I will use the four hour
break to catch a snooze if needed in the student lounge in the library
building where the sociology class is located and then work on Math
Homework if I can.
Thursdays and Tues have the same schedule, start with a 8:30 am class
call Art Survey, the history of art from the pre-historic to Medevial
times! The book for that one is 10 lbs! So I am pushing a ten pound
book all day on my walker. Had a ten am class that I dropped becasue
I only have fifteen minutes between the two to get from one end of the
campus to the other, not really but sure feels like it, and I can do
it in fifteen minutes but no pee break or stop an get a soda etc, and
then may be a few minutes late into that class anyway depending on how
the elevators in the two buildings are cooperating with me. Have next
class then at 1:15. The 10 o'clock on ended at 12:45 and I tried to
see if I could handle it and found out physically it would be too
much! So I dropped the Intro to Art because that is offerred every
sememster.
The good news is tha it is only a four day week so this week I have
four days off and a three day week next week. Also my Art Survey
teacher and I worked out a problem; the required attendence of the
opening of the art gallery in the building for the fall show. He said
there would be 2 to 3 hundred people attening and all crammed into a
32 x 50 ft room along with tables for refreshments etc. We decided it
would be safter for me if I didn';t attend it; I was willing to lose
those 4 pointts but he said he will have me write an essay about one
of the things shown in the gallery! This was freely offered! After
he offered that and I accepted I told him what had happened the day
before which illustrated what he feared happening.
Wednesday after I finished the Math class I stopped to use the ladies
room; came out and just as I pushed the walker out someone came flying
down the hall, crashed into my walker which shoved it into the leg I
had extended to finsh pusing into the hall and I went ka0-plop head
over heals and my glasses went flying completely across the hall and
they went blithly on their way and down the stairs. I rolled to where
I was able to get on hands and knees, crawled to my glasses, they were
unbroken and unscratched, picked the up, put them on, and crawled over
to some chairs that were placed in the hall and used them to push me
up to standing and tottered back to my walker. Then headed up the
hill to the library to go to sociology. I ate the dinner I was
carrying and promptly took a nap in the student lounge.
After classes on Thursday I get home about 4 4:30 and after clearing
mail I generally try to relax by playing games. Friday is generally a
post and play day and today I started by playing and will go back to
playing after I finish all my posting.
