The parents of a five year old boy have been arrested by National
Police in Alcantarilla for injuries caused to the child during an
attempted home circumcision. La Opinión de Murcia has revealed that
staff at the local health centre contacted police after the parents
took their son to the emergency department on Monday last week to be
treated for injuries to his penis. He was later transferred to the
Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia City.
An investigation into possible abuse was then launched, despite claims
from the boy’s parents that he had caused the injuries himself.
The medical report on the child’s condition noted that his injuries
were caused by either a double-edged knife or a cutting knife and were
consistent with a home circumcision. Police found similar items in the
family’s home and traces of bloodstains on the floor.
It’s understood the father is from Nigeria and the mother from the
Cote d’Ivoire – the Ivory Coast.
