"The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy." (James 5:11) "For his mercy endureth forever." (1 Chron. 16:34) "The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works." (Ps. 145:9) "God is love." (1 John 4:16)
God *IS* Love. He also isn't a sucker. On a simpler plain, did your parents
love you? If so, did they ever punish you? There is no contradiction, here.
Wow! I made a reference to PARENTS. Sounds like your were pretty strict if
you relat that with CAPITAL punishment.

Leviticus 20:9
If anyone curses his father and mother he must be put
to death. He has cursed his father and mother; his
blood guilt is on himself.
Deuteronomy 21
21:18 If a person has a stubborn, rebellious son who
pays no attention to his father or mother, and they
discipline him to no avail, 21:19 his father and mother
must seize him and bring him to the elders at the gate
of his city. 21:20 They must declare to the elders of
his city, "Our son is stubborn and rebellious and pays
no heed to what we say-he is a glutton and
drunkard." 21:21 Then all the men of his city must
stone him to death. Thus you will purge out
wickedness from among you, and all Israel will hear
about it and fear.

Are you Jewish? Christians believe Jesus fulfilled the law you speak of by
dying on the cross.
Not to say the law is null and void, but your salvation cannot be attained
by it.

ACT 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, ac- cording to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
MAT 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came togeth- er, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
You do believe that Jews and Christians worship the same god
don't you?
You do believe that those laws were given by the same loving and
merciful god which you worship don't you?

Your disagreement is not with Aaron or with me when it comes to
biblical contradictions.. You already recognize that there are
numerous such contradictions. Your disagreement with us, and
with most Christians comes in describing the historical Jesus.
It appears that we do disagree on just who this historical Jesus
was. The Old Testament prophecies called for a messiah who would
throw off foreign rule and restore the Kingdom of Israel. That
is what Jesus attempted fulfill. That is the historical Jesus
which has been ignored.
You have recommended a set of books. Neither of us have the time
to read all the books recommended to us, and argumentum ad
verecundiam is unreliable. So let's hear your arguments if you
have any.

And I suggest, as do many others, that the historical Jesus did NOT see
himself fulfilling this role. Indeed, the "Messiah" as predicted did not
fit the scenario of being killed. End of point. Jesus, perhaps, came closer
to the image of the "Suffering Servant" but, again, there is no legitimage
proof amongst scholars and those who have studied the subject that Jesus
claimed any special status at all.

I can understand your reluctance to read anything that contradicts the
neat, tidy, but ultimately erroneous package you hold. I'm certainly not
going to go further in offering insight and resources when you've already
shown you have no interest in a dialog on the subject.
I didn't say that Jesus saw himself as being killed. In fact, he
didn't see himself that way at all.

That is an odd comment. You made it without knowing what my
viewpoints are. I was the one who asked you for your views, but
you say that I am not interested in a dialog on the subject.
Makes me wonder why you even bother posting anything.

Yes, but I believe the Jews still look to those laws for salvation because
they deny Christ.

I must admit, that was odd.

There much disagreement on how Jesus saw himself. A good
argument can be made that Jesus did see himself as fulfilling the
messianic prophecy, and that he did not see his future as being
executed.
Basically the OT Messiah was going to rid the country of foreign
rulers and restore the dynasty of David.
It is hard to imagine that the Romans would have arrested and
executed Jesus for claiming to be "King of the Jews" (a
treasonable act) unless he at some time openly made that claim,
which in effect would be claiming to be a messiah.
The entry of Jesus into Jerusalem seated upon an ass was not only
a fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9, but it was deliberately planned.
Kings have been known to ride on asses, and King Solomon himself
rode to his coronation on an ass (1 Kings 1:33, 38.) In effect,
this was a public declaration by Jesus that he was the messiah.
There are too many parallels between the book of Zechariah and th
e life and teachings of Jesus to think that Jesus was not trying
to fulfill it. For example Jesus spoke of himself as a shepherd
which reflects Zechariah 11. Jesus' cleansing of the temple is
from Zechariah 14:21, and his promise to rebuild the Temple was
meant literally and taken from Zechariah 6:13.
Unlike the Zealots, who advocated a military uprising against the
Romans, Jesus spoke of a "day of the Lord." This day of the LORD
is described in Zechariah 13-14. An interesting point of this
"day of the LORD" is that it takes place on the Mount of Olives:
Zechariah 14:4
On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives
which lies to the east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of
Olives will be split in half from east to west, leaving a
great valley. Half the mountain will move northward
and the other half southward.
It was to the Mount of Olives that Jesus led the disciples after
he told his followers to sell their cloaks for swords (Luke
22:36, 39.)
Can you see it? That is the day that Jesus believed God would
stand upon the Mount of Olives and do battle against the nations.
That is what he was praying for. But it never came to be. Jesus
surrendered to the authorities and was crucified.
