In this world of multi-tasking, chaos, and noise, it's easy to drown out
God's voice. I find that it's much "easier" spiritually to surround myself
with people and their voices, whether it's in person or through media, to
busy myself at tasks with the radio or TV blaring, to immerse myself in the
cacophony. I find myself sitting alone in my living room in the afternoons,
before my stepchildren & husband arrive home from wherever they're off to,
and I'll hop up and DO something instead of taking even a moment to
contemplate His word. Sometimes it's deliberate, because I don't want to
think about what I'm doing wrong. Other times, it's just. . .life that gets
in the way.

So I thought I'd share the words of one of my favorite songs as I sit before
the computer screen (with NPR off today - trying to follow some of my own
advice):

=========================

The more I get alone the more I see I need to get alone, more.
'Cuz just when I think that I'm alone Your spirit calls out to me.
And even silence has a song; and that's when You come, and sing over me.

Still, let me be still, and let me be OK with the quiet in my heart.
Still, I want to be still, I'm so quick to move, instead of listening to
You.
Shut my mouth, crush my pride, give me the tears of a broken life -
Still.

And oh this world it falls around me and and flutters all its beauty in my
eyes. . .oh. . .
But let me choose the solitude, simplicity has always simply changed my
life.
And even silence makes me move, cuz that's when my heart learns to dance
with You.

Hold me. . .cleanse me. . .change me, oh God change me,
Change me while I am. . .

. . .Still, let me be still, and know that you are God, and you're always
enough.
Still, I want to be still, to take all that I am, and simply lift it up.
I'm your child, take my heart, obedience to me impart -
Still.

Going to be still for a while. . .

LB - it reminded me of this verse:
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I
will be exalted in the earth.
Definitely times for this isn' there. Times to reflect, to pray, to get into
God and His Word. To hear what He would say to us. I pray that above all
else His Word is always heard: when we are at work, when we are at home,
when we are abroad.
