Yes, the good news about salvation for all through faith in Christ Jesus

Actually more and more establishments have started opening on the
25th. Not much yet but certainly petrol stations, twenty four hour
mini-markets and some pubs in the evenings now open.
Sundays used to be deadly dull as well and the "Lord's Day
Observance Society" was allowed to dictate what we could or
could not do. Thankfully they have lost that battle to control our
lives.
I agree though it is does remain a bit of a dull day for most people
as the last bastion of Christianities grip on what the rest of us are
allowed to do has yet to be fully breached. We surely cannot be
fully free to our rights of freedom of conscience and religion until
this Taliban like control on the 25th is swept away and we are
all free to do as we wish within good laws that applies to all.
Great day for hill walkers though.

I don't know whether that's a good thing or not.
I'm glad to see them open.
But when I was a kid my father used to work Christmas mornings (on the
railways, London Underground). This was an official day off and he
needed the premium overtime rate. I would have rather he didn't,
because he worked a horrible shift pattern which meant he couldn't
spend much time with us kids anyway. Even though we were an atheist
family who didn't really celebrate Christmas it was a fun time,
opening presents, a special dinner etc. We would have preferred him to
be with us when we opened the presents instead of opening his
separately when he came home from work.
In those days there was a proper train service on the 24th and some
sort of service on Christmas morning.
After Igraduated and started work (in Stoke), and travelled back to my
parents (in London) by train on the 24th, the last train was just
atfter lunch because they wanted the crews to finish their day at
their home location. No service at all on Christmas day.
Being a bachelor who didn't really celebrate Christmas, I tended to be
the on-call person.
My brother worked in the national heath service and also worked
Christmas. Hospital Christmas was fun. They went out of their way to
make it special for the patients.

When I lived in Manchester the chief of police was one of the rare
fundamentalist loonies - James Anderton. He selectively enforced the
law according to his religious beliefs. Which meant that all the DIY
superstores were closed on Sundays but the ones in the surrounding
area, like Denton, were close to the boundary. The best one, in
Stretford, was too close to his HQ so they didn't dare open on Sunday.
He lived near Sale so SALE DIY was like a speakeasy. You'd knock on
the door abd they'd pull back a panel to inspect you before letting
you in.
His first action when he got the job was to raid city crentre
newstands because he felt the Sun and the Star were pornographic.
In an inteview on the radio he said he heard God telling him what to
do, God had placed him in that job, and people should be at church on
Sunday not shopping.
There was an unholy alliance between the Lord's Day Observance society
and the trade unions.
The society wanted to impose their sabbath on everybody, and the shop
worker's union wanted its members to have the day off. But anybody in
the transport and many other industries had to work it. Even I was on
call with my pager.

I agree.
I always hated Christmas because you couldn't get away from the
Christmasness. All the TV movies, shows etc were Christmas related and
sentimentally yukky. About the only Christmas movie I like is White
Christmas - but thats because I'm a fan of Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen, and
Rosemary Clooney, even Bing Crosby is OK in it.

Thank you for the clarification albeit by a somewhat roundabout route.
You do not fall into that category my foolish friend. Only a fool
claims to be capable of infallible discernment and then pronounces
it as the wisdom of a Solomon as you do. , the rest of us recognise
our fallability. That's why I call you a religious crank. It is not

The strength of our resolve springs from the hope that we have chosen to
place in the LORD. For this reason, all praises and glory belongs to
the LORD, Whom we love with all by heart, soul, mind and strength :-)

Why desperate? Why not 'seek enjoyment from' instead?
No I was merey letting you know that you had given me

feeble way. It came so quickly too :-) You types get very
predictable you know,

Since the latter two aims are never achieved when debating

intelligent to offer the debate, we communicate with you for
recreation and fun. You cannot possible image how how much
laughter we get from people like you. Sadly though you types
do tend to get tedious after a while with your limited repertoire

Oh, why didn't you tell us you were blind, that makes things a lot
clearer? I do hope it is only the blindness of one who stumbles in
the reals of ignorance and darkness where gods emerge into the
minds of men to suck them back into the dark. You will forever

The fact that he insists on continuing to post to alt.atheism, even
though every single regular alt.atheism poster has both politely and
impolitely made abundantly clear to him that he's off-topic and

Then why don't I feel despair? I even survived Katrina and don't feel
"despair."
Whaddya make of that Skippy?
Why are so many theists like you so insistently stupid? Telling Andrew
his proselytizing is off-topic and unwelcome in alt.atheism is not
"discussing the Lord." Pointing out that Andrew is being rude by
arrogantly posting and reposting his unsupported wishful thinking where
he knows FOR A FACT not a single person wants to hear it is not
"discussing the Lord."
If I decided to repeatedly and compulsively spew some sort of unwelcome
concepts at you, say racism or paedophila, do you think that "maybe
somehow, someway, someday" the desire to kill people outside your race
or rape children will finally come alive in you? Heck, both of those
attitudes have biblical approval; maybe you should get started. You
wouldn't want to anger "the Lord."
> Peace brother.

Great. Do it elsewhere.
Repeating a lie doesn't make it true. It does add another entry to
your list of sins, though.
The post is clearly marked off topic, the fact that you continue to bait
him and insult him is proof that you are as OCD as you claim him to be,
since you have clear freedom of choice to avoid his posts if you so
desire, but the fact that you don't proves that you are either
frightened by what Andrew has to say, or secretly want to learn more
about the Christ.
I have one thanks, and it is given daily in service to The Lord Jesus
Christ.

Telling him so in a thread clearly marked as Off Topic is.

You can tell Andrew not to proselytize but it means nothing since the
thread is clearly marked as OT. And you sir are not qualified to say
what Andrew "knows for a fact" at all.

Don't work for a living, huh?
Funny, but I've never had "the lord" and I don't feel despair either.
However, my theist sis-in-laws are often miserable. Go figure.

Nor that one either.
Again it depends what you mean by "The Lord" surely?
Anyway this is your claim, without even knowing what you
mean and having no evidence of it upon which to form
even a belief I can form no opinion of any kind about it. Thus
far we have had only assertions from you and as I am sure you
know an assertion is worthless without supporting evidence

It matter not how intelligent or knowledgable a person is, when it
comes to religion all that intelligence and knowledge is thrown out of
the window, and they all become the same dumb sheep bleating the
same beliefs and assertion in a kind of self-brainwashed catatonic
state. They clearly follow the dictum that belief trumps evidence
every time. Everything is as nothing when compared with their blind
faith. Thus the genius becomes the fool and the fool becomes the
wise man.

Practicing medicine using prescriptions from the Bible is malpractice.
Liar. He didn't say he denies his despair, he asked why he doesn't
feel despair, since you assert without evidence "Without the LORD,

Thank you for the compliment, but really we are not always right.
Yes we are clearly right about the illogicality of religion but I
suspect, like me we are often wrong about other things.
Glad you have realised we were right and truthful all along
I wasn't going to reply, since you were kind enough to not re-add
alt.atheism; thank you for that. However, despite your insistence to
the contrary, nobody in alt.atheism is discussing "the lord." Nobody
in alt.atheism is interested in your mythology. To insist otherwise,
particularly in light of how clearly every single poster from
alt.atheism has made their position, is stupid. Please try to avoid
letting your theism make you stupid.
> > Telling Andrew

No, still not; doesn't matter if the thread is marked OT, it only
matters that the topic of the thread is unwelcome in alt.atheism. The
subject under discussion at that point is the bad manners of the person
insisting on repeatedly crossposting their theistic nonsense where it
is unwelcome; we already know it's off topic.

You are wrong, I suspect deliberately so. Proselytizing is unwelcome
in alt.atheism; it doesn't matter that it's also off topic, because the
group wasn't formed for proselytizing, and the members of the group
don't want unsupported theistic nonsense pushed on them. There are all
sorts of topics which ARE welcome, and some of them happen to be
off-topic to the generally concern of alt.atheism. Off topic and
unwelcome are not always the same thing.
> And you sir are not qualified to say what Andrew "knows for a fact" at all.
In fact, I am qualified, unless you can point out anyone in alt.atheism
who has indicated interest.

Amusing, in that I'm merely using an analogy of your argument.
Apparently, when I do it, it's a strawman, but when you do it, it's
legitimate debate.

Really? You sure about that?
Numbers 31:17-18
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every
woman that hath known man by lying with him.
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with
him, keep alive for yourselves.
1 Samuel 15:2-3

destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and

When you say "here," what do you mean, exactly?
That's nice. Did you happen to read what he said about bothering
people with your nonsense? It was important enough to be repeated a
few times.
Matthew 10:14
