Hey there everyone,
Sorry I haven't been posting but, like I said last week, my household
has just been one upheaval and renovation after the next and this week
has been no exception. I'm still top soiling, planting and mulching as
I've gotten REALLY interested in all this gardening stuff, plus keeping
up with the ever falling leaves has been another brand of exercise for
me.

I've also been getting ready for our Kids Blockbuster Garage Sale which
is taking place this Saturday. Can you believe I have 15 families
involved! WOW! I have signs all over in store fronts. I still have some
signs to make for the day of the sale, still pricing video's, CD's,
clothes, etc.. PLUS.. getting ready all the refreshments, for the
sellers.. I'm telling you.. I could start another business. I also plan
on selling my Ladies Auxiliary Cookbooks.. (hey.. it's my sale right!)
Well, I found out that some of my friends have decided to bring some
other than kids stuff, so why not! It should be fun, exciting and a good
money maker.

My daycare is running smoothly. The fainter hasn't fainted, the screamer
is starting to calm down and the five year old still is giving her
mother grief about not coming to my house because, "She is afraid her
mother isn't going to pick her up". In my opinion, the mother and father
have been way too upfront with this child who was adopted from China
because her birth mother "left" her at the doors of the orphanage.
And... they've told her this story many times.. So.. is it any wonder
why the child is afraid? Strange though, five minutes after she arrives,
she's happy! Go figure. Well, let's put it this way on a business
perspective.... The girl was "Supposed" to be in my care on Monday,
Wednesday and today... because the child twisted her way out of Monday
and Wednesday she was not here, but only today. Guess how much I got
paid for one day? $135. Do I feel guilty.. YES because this is how it
has been going on for THREE days.. and too boot... this child only comes
to me from 11:30-5:00! HIGHWAY ROBBERY.. but, this client is sticking to
my policy.. I am open, your child is supposed to be in my home, I still
get paid.. Question is... this has been going on for the past 6 weeks!
I'm starting to feel a tad guilty....

Well, that's that! Hope everyone is well and prospering!

According to the prices around here, $135 will get you a peach or
plum tree delivered and planted. Six weeks of it and you'd have a nice
mini-orchard. Don't feel guilty. Business is good!

Leslie,

Glad to hear things are running smoothly at the moment! That's always a
nice breath of fresh air, isn't it!!!

Don't you dare feel guilty, however, for sticking to your policy. This
isn't your problem. It's a sad situation, but still, like you said, it's
your policy, and she's taking up a space. Sorry if I sound cold, but
that's my business side. I really am a softy. Just ask my husband!!

Take care, and good luck with the sale! Sounds like it's going to be a
success! And once again, wish I had your energy. I feel great if I just
make it through the day!

Leslie,

I meant to say, I know what you mean about keeping up with the ever
falling leaves. Making those piles to jump in takes a lot of time!!!!! ;)

You know, I was never a believer in sweeping up fall leaves. I love the
"au naturel" look. Not to mention I just don't have the time or energy to
do it! And I've heard it's good for your lawn because it provides
insulation and "food" for it during the long cold winters we have up here.
But that was probably a theory given by someone who hates gathering leaves
as much as I do. :)

By the way, we've had snow, but it hasn't stayed on the ground, thank
goodness! Pretty early for that, even up here in Ottawa!!

You are absolutely right Mary, leaves do provide a certain amount of
beneficial security for plants over the winter. I'm not so sure how much
it does for the grass though. I love to see the leaves when they've just
fallen with all the hues of various fall colors glistening off the green
grass background. It's when they get all brown, slimy and black that I
get depressed. My kids of course, like to jump in the leaves and I like
to collect them in put them around my house for some fall decorations
too. I am mostly just taking away all the leaves that have clung to and
on top of all the many new perennials that I've planted this year.. like
yesterday's box that I got in the mail... all 56 of them!

Thanks and enjoy the day!

Yes, that would be a bummer, Leslie, to have just planted beautiful
flowers just to have them covered by slimy leaves. I totally understand where
you're coming from!!

I still wouldn't be collecting the leaves. I'm a totally lazy person,
without an inch of energy left over for anything but total necessities. I
don't know how you do it! Wish I could.

Sounds like your home is becoming quite the beauty to behold lately. Are
you doing a total re-landscaping job?

Well, I guess you could say that we are doing a total re-doing of sorts.

1. Put in that garden pond, which now is home to four fish.
2. Rock garden around it
3. Perennial garden around my mailbox and lights in the front which
was always just grass,
5. A shade garden on the other side of my house
6. Today and yesterday some outfit is balling and removing 6 very large
pine trees from the other side of my house (just to give you an idea the
tree guy said the one would be worth $800 in a garden store). They are
going to a friend of my husbands who built a house two streets away. I'm
hoping to get a nice picket fence for around my garden that we doubled
in size two weeks ago.

7. I've planted over 300 bulbs so far around my yard, back and front,
and sides (and I haven't even received my BRECKS order yet!)

8. Put in numerous of other kind of perennials (thanks to my EBAY
auctions) around my house, front, back and sides. Planted over 50 cloves
of garlic and alium bulbs around my garden as well.

9. Put in a flower garden in my back yard and a deeper edge down my
backyard fence for various perennials.

10. Oh, and in a couple of weeks, the sod comes for the front lawn after
my husband borrows a machine to regrade it a little bit. Then, in the
spring I am getting some Japanese Privet Hedges to go where the pine
trees were, and putting in another flower garden around the air
conditioner unit.

11. I am waiting for 20 Victorian Ivy plants I won on Ebay to cover up
this unsightly fence that the pine trees used to hid that belongs to my
neighbors who have let the thing sit in pure disgust for as long as I've
been in my home which is now over 14 years. I'm planting the ivy along
the side of it and training it to grow up the fence and HIDE IT!

That's about it...
Sorry folks, I've gone way OT..

We have had several days of snow and hail here in Upstate NY! That is all it
did last Fri, Sat and Sun. It just kept switching back and forth. A bit of
the snow stayed for a few hours but then it all melted.

The leaves are at a peak and oh so beautiful. Just starting to fall.
Thankfully I don't have lots of trees in the yard so I don't have to rake up
the mess. We have 6 poplar and one maple, all very young trees, we planted
them, as well as 2 pine. Funny thing is I found out I am allergic to them
all! And I mulched the crap out of all of my flower beds and the landscaping
around the perimeter of the house with mini pine bark mulch. No wonder I got
a nasty sinus infection a few weeks after doing all that stuff!

Just wondering about the pond..is that not a safety hazard? Kids could
fall in.
Here we would require a fence for it. Just curious, is all.
Your yard sound beautiful...be sure to post pics on your Webshots.

Very good point Zipper.

The area that I have the pond at is right besides my front door. The
children are never in that area as they come and go through my garage
door which is not in any way close to the pond. As far as play time
goes, the kids are only in the driveway when we ride bikes or waiting
for their parents to come and they are not allowed anywhere around the
front of my house. In the backyard where we spend most of our outdoor
play time it is surrounded by a fence and three locked gates.

I've been reading your posts about leaves, mulching, and such and
thought I'd share a tip I read recently. Try shredding the leaves and
using them as mulch. It works great, and at the end of the season you
can just turn them into your soil and let them decompose.
