I can't agree with you more.
They are total stupidity.
While I like the idea of having an *emergency* camera with me, I've
done just fine, without one, all these years.
As far as having one to send pictures to people, etc., it's pure crap.

There ya go...
Have a look at the "Do you have a camera on your phone?..." thread.
Just wait 'til the violation-of-privacy lawsuits come rolling in!
Larry
I think you're right. I also think that it is worth the money to the teens
and the "gee-whiz" set. :)

The only advantage is that you can send them pretty much instantly. But
any digital camera you can buy for around $100 will have better resolution.
There are plenty of other individual moments when a camera immediately
on hand would be both practical and worthwhile. How else can I prove I
saw Britney on the street? :)

And that's why I keep a disposable in my glove compartment.
Larry
...and with a camera phone you could take a picture too.

Unless the disposable's film goes bad.
Then when the cops show up, a digital is nice so they can see it on the
spot. That way it can go in the report that you had a picture then and
there, not something the other person can claim you fudged up later.
For safety, you can also e-mail the picture to yourself instantly.
Disposable, or "single use," digital camera.
Larry
They make those?
>I am curious about all the camera phone hype. I think it is just

Camera phone is only around to get the kiddie crowd to use the phone
more. Like they need any help using the phone LOL.
It's all hype to me. I've seen pictures on even the best quality
phone, and I'd be ashamded to send a pic with one of those.
Someone told me that a real estate person might use one LOL,
all the ones I know carry a quality digital camera and use their
phone to connect their computer to send the pic. The person on the
other end, gets a QUALITY picture that doesn't have to be explained.
Just like they said on SNL.......if it ain't scottish........its CRAP!
Well, cameras in cell phones sure aren't scottish, so they must be
CRAP........
Have a look at http://www.cexx.org/dakota/, or Google "single-use digital
camera" or "disposable digital camera."

Doesn'r anybody in this thread have kids?
My cellphone is ALWAYS with me. My Nikon Coolpix isn't.
Having a camera phone means always having a camera with you. Sure
it's a sh*tty low-res one, but any port in a storm when you need to
capture a Kodak moment, only to find Kodak isn't with you!
Having said that, my camera phone isn't making my carrier any money- I
transfer the pix to my PC via IR, not via 25-cents per picture MMS!
Yeah.
I do.

I'd rather just carry my digital camera with me. It isn't difficult, it's
not a big unit.

Don
Duh.
> Who the hell need a camera in their phone? I think that is dumb.
Yes it is dumb. It's a cute toy. As long as it doesn't affect the phone
function it's okay. However it's interesting that most of the camera phones
are lousy phones AND lousy cameras.
You can buy a $1 disposable camera that will take far better photographs
than a camera phone, without any danger of claims that prints were edited
(since you have the negatives). Even when the film is expired, exposed to
heat and cold, the disposable will be sufficient.
Unlikely. Even expired film, film exposed to head and cold, will be better
than a digital camera phone. Also, much less chance of claims that the photo
was edited, since you have the negatives. I can buy cheap disposables for $1
at Fry's.
They also cost more and it appears the only way to get a CDMA Bluetooth
phone from VZW will involve a camera. Sigh. Pictures are why I have a D2h.
Additionally, the paranoia about camera phones is already starting to hit.

I think that cell phones are great for being able to transmit data anywhere.
That's why they should stay the way they are, but have hookups so that
camera, PCs, notebooks, anything can connect to them to send data. Adding on
built-in shit that can't be upgraded is like building a damned Compaq
computer.
