611 and *611 should reach CS
#646 (#MIN) to check minute usage
#225 (#BAL) to check payments/balance
*228 to program phone or update PRL (check other posts in this NG for an
explanation of what that is)
I once got a message on an unactivated phone saying I could call *711 to
open a temporary account, but that worked neither with that phone nor
with another activated one, so go figure.
There might be other non-obvious ones I'm missing here.
Thanks

2. some time ago there was a discussion as to whether you should press #228,
2 every time you were in a new location. knowing which would be a help to
travelers.

It's like an index of different System IDs that Verizon programmed
in for the phone to connect to with certain priorities on
certain SIDs over others. It also is what drives the roaming
indicator on the phone to indicate whether Verizon has a roaming
agreement with the carrier you're roaming with or not.
Google "prl 50057" and you'll be able to see one and then it will
make sense.

1. if you press #1 it will program your phone number, home SID, NID and
other basic programming info including PRL version for your price plan
2. #228 will not work. it's *228. However. it should never be done when you
are outside of your real "home" area. (example: if you are from chicago,
even if you have SR national price plan, you still should not do *228 while
you are in NYC or LA,)
3 (or maybe 2 again?) everytime you are roaming in different location. you
may try *18 to ensure follow me roaming is activated.
"james g. keegan jr." <kee...@nycap.rr.com> wrote in message
news:CBrC9.64552$Em.22...@twister.nyroc.rr.com...
Option 1 usually means to program your phone number, home system id, and
such into your phone, and then load the PRL. This is usually a one-time
thing when you get a new phone. It used to be that all of the info had
to be manually entered, in a model-dependent procedure. Now the CSR just
enters the ESN into their system, and then does *228,option 1 on the phone.
Option 2 just loads the current (for better or for worse) PRL.
On your next point, sounds like *28, which was used to get your phone
registered in the location where you were roaming. Except for a few
oddball cases, usually involving "mom-and-pop" local cellular companies,
this is no longer needed, since the registration happens automatically
when your phone acquires the new system. In fact, if you are roaming
in CDMA digital mode, this registration HAS to happen, since the link
from the phone to the tower is encoded with the ESN (serial number)
of your phone, which is never transmitted over the air. The system
you are roaming on has to get this info from your home system.

you don't know either, eh?
good for readers to ahve anotehr chance to the legitimacy of your posts
though.
jk
ps. i replaced some of the text you deleted
If you upgrade outside of your home market, the system may not recognize
you, and will probably load a generic PRL, probably one that shows the
roaming indicator everywhere outside your home market. This effectively
disables your ability to determine your roaming situation, a critical factor
with the America's Choice plan, until you get home.
Don't upgrade unless you are fairly certain of the results!

i was simply reacting to something i saw as really ugly ... miclelle's flame
of a legitimate request for information because it contained a typo.
this newsgroup's purpose is to exchange information. if people like michell
can intimidate lurkers who are considering posting and make them afraid to
ask a question becauwse of the way they see others' questions being bashed
about, then it makes the newsgroup a less good place to be.
i think when someone behaves as michelle did, it's not so bad a thing for
people to speak up and say something.

too bad you didn't just correct the typo rather than attack the typist.
as i said, "perhaps your life is so ugly and hopeless that you have some
excuse for this
behavior. still, you would be better off to keep your hatred at home."
now run along until you develop the character to apologize to all the
readers who do not post looking for help or information because they don't
want to deal with the ugliness of a response like yours.
jk.
ps. some deleted text replaced for accuracy and context
you didn't really need to lie again here. why did you do so?
readers know you flamed a typo in a legitimate request for information.
that was a mean spirited and ugly thing for you to have done.
readers know you should have responded with a quick apology for your
behavior and moved on.
instead you make more personal attacks.
> He is a liar and an abuser.
you paint a clear portrait of yourself in this thread,
shame on you.
you already posted proof of my statement by reposting your article. were you
so filled with anger and hatred that you didn't read what you said?
keep on denying what you did because in doing so you paint yourself in a way
that is far, far uglier than anyone else could.
you flamed a typo contained in a legitimate request for information.
then, instead of apologizing, you twisted and lied and denied, as has been
your history in the past.
you are ugly, meanspirited and completely without honor or character.
in your display of hatred and anger, you already proved that you lied. you
reposted an example

your continued lies and denials don;t change what you did. your blatant lies

why do you want me to apologize for your lies? have you become so twisted
you are not sure who you are?
>

no, you are responding in rage because your character has again been
displayed for the newsgroup to see.
