Hello

Does VZN allow the purchase of a PDA phone, without purchasing the DATA
plan? I need to replace my aging HP IPAQ, and was looking at the Windows
Mobile devices that VZN offers....but, I have no need for the data plan.
I want to use the VZN PDA to sync with MS Outlook.

Appreciate your assistance.

As I understand it when you purchase your PDA from Vzw you are required to
buy a data plan. It's unresolved what happens if you buy your phone outside
of Vzw and activate it to work on Vzw's network. You might search Howard
Forums.

The North American Union and SPP are just convenient retreats for the same
crooks and kooks that were telling you to panic about Y2K.

At the risk of getting flamed, I have the answer for you.
I recently did this online after calling customer service.
The process was I had to select the unlimited plan to order the PDA online.
VZW told me I could change to a pay as you go soon as I activated the phone.
Customer sevice also told me to ask for data blocking and to be sure to not
turn on Active Sync before getting data block.
(They warned me people have experienced large charges due to Active Sync
turning on)
I followed instruction and everything fell into place as advertised - No
data in and No data out (but WiFi still works cost free).
Good Luck. This was another positive experience with customer service for
me.

You can get a pay as you go data plan, but they won't let you keep an
old "non-data" plan. I have a family plan with mobile web ($5 a
month, uses my regular minutes). I inquired and was told I could NOT
keep this plan if I got a smart phone.

You must buy a data plan if you buy a PDA phone at VZW. However, you can buy
a pay-as-you-go plan and then ask for a "data block". This will effectively
be kinda like not having a data plan.

Be aware... if you get the data block, you will not be able to send MMS
picture messages.

I also have a much older plan.
I got my PDA, converted to pay as you go and data block, and retained my
original plan.
The PDAs do not support the mobile web browser. I had to give up mobile web
(actually a third party supplier cheaper and better) with my PDA, but
retained it on my wife's phone.
