For sale:
UTTERLY rare set of original artwork materials for the Top Gun original
soundtrack album. These are original artwork material from CBS Records
art department and are ONE OF A KIND. Included are the past-up boards
used to design the album cover, CD cover, CD longbox and more. Also
included are color proofs and printer's proofs of these packages.
As these are the ORIGINAL paste-ups, they are unique. There is only
one set, and when this is sold, it's sold.
Owing to the unique nature of this material,
and the fact it originates from the original record company, this is
not only extremely cool stuff, it's also investment grade material.
A must for the serious Tom Cruise fan, Top Gun fan, or serious fans
of the artists included on the soundtrack, including Cheap Trick,
Kenny Loggins, Berlin, Miami Sound Machine, Loverboy, Teena Marie, and others.
The asking price for the entire lot of materials is $225/obo + shipping.
A detailed description of the contents of this lot follow:
1) Paste-up original artwork design for the Top Gun soundtrack LP
(Columbia SC 40323). A paste-up consists of the pictures + text and other
graphics. Typically the paste-up materials are in black and white.
This is not a camera-ready image, but rather a working graphic used
to ultimately generate the camera-ready image. The graphics used in the
paste-up are of varying quality. The paste up is on a posterboard.
On top of the paste up is a semi-transparent piece of parchment paper,
on which the art department has written various comments and corrections
to the design. There are tears in this parchment (and a small
irrelevant section is missing), but all comments are still readable.
Initialed, probably by member of art department.
2) Paste-up original artwork design for the LP sleeve of the Top Gun soundtrack
album. See comments in (1) about paste-ups.
3) Paste-up original artwork design for the Top Gun CD booklet. Includes the
CD booklet cover and all interior pages. See comments in (1) about
paste-ups. Initialed, probably by member of art deparment.
4) Paste-up original artwork design for the Top Gun CD inlay card. This paste
up is taped to the parchment paper in front of paste up (3). See
comments in (1) about paste-ups.
5) Paste-up original artwork design for the Top Gun CD longbox.
See comments in (1) about paste-ups. Initialed, probably by member
of art department.
6) Printer's proof for the Top Gun LP jacket. Are cardboard stock with
color bars along top edge. There are tears in the upper left corner,
between the edge of the back album image and the color bar, where it
appears staples were torn off. Proof is initialed by several people,
probably OKs by members of the art department. There are some modest
creases in the cardboard.
7) Proof the the Top Gun CD longbox. On glossy phot stock.
Has a hole outside the image of the longbox in the upper left corner,
where a staple was removed. No color bars. There are some modest creases
in the proof.
8) Three proofs for the LP sleeve for the Top Gun soundtrack. No color bars.
One proof includes annotations of a few typos. The other proofs have
these typos fixed.
9) A stack of proofs for the CD insert and booklet. These are stapled
together. Includes a color proof the the insert with a correction
noted, a black and white proof of the insert with the correction made,
a color proof of the front and back of the CD booklet, and various
black and white proofs of the text within the CD booklet. No color bars
on any of these.
