'Ugly Betty' sinks to new series low
Monday, November 16 2009, 1:39pm EST

By Dan French, TV Editor

Ugly Betty sunk to a new series low Friday night, according to the
latest viewing figures.

The 9pm episode pulled in 4.45m, dropping around 310k on last week's
performance.

Elsewhere at 9pm, Medium put in 8.16m for CBS, 7.32m watched Dateline
NBC, and Fox's Bones rerun took 4m. The CW's America's Next Top Model
encore was last for the hour, drawing 1.35m.

Ghost Whisperer won the 8pm hour, pulling in 8.01m for CBS. Its
nearest rival, NBC's Law & Order, managed 7.5m.

ABC's Supernanny put in 5.03m, 3.5m watched a rerun of House on Fox,
and Smallville interested 2.7m for The CW.

At 10pm, Numb3rs logged 8.16m for CBS, 4.69m tuned in for The Jay
Leno
Show on NBC, and 20/20 had 6.75m for ABC.

We'll see how it does on Wednesday at 10 after ABC's comedies now that
'Eastwick' has been cancelled.

I watched it. One of the best episodes yet. I love Mark when he's
mentoring Justin.

Mija. It's a conflation of "mi hija," or "my girl." He says it often
because Spanish-speaking fathers do that.

This show has lots and lots of other, more noteworthy problems. I saw
a few minutes of it last week for the first time in several years.
Awful. And what happened to Becky Newton's face?

In your opinion. When a featured actress changes her appearance so
radically and IMHO needlessly, to the point where I didn't quite
recognize her, I think it becomes nontrivial. I guess that, since I
didn't notice the overuse of "mija" at all, we each have our own
priorities here.

Anyway, you want a list? In the seven minutes or so that I saw, three
characters did absolutely stupid things, apparently just for laughs or
to awkwardly drive the plot along. Since it's supposed to be a comedy,
I should mention that there wasn't a single laugh during those seven
minutes. More technically, the show looked as if it had been shot in
the Martian desert; everything seemed tinted somewhat orange. I
understand that production moved to NYC a year or two ago, and maybe
that accounts for it.
