Hi Been getting many data errors with cheap discs, and now need some that'll be reliable. But its a while since I used CDs or DVDs for real data storage, so am out of date on the trustable brands. Over the years I've used Nero to save several images of bootable floppy disks from Win98 to XP, some of them tailored to my needs. I save them as .nrg or ISO files and write them on to optical media from time to time, adding other data as needed. But for the life of me, I can't remember how to write the boot... more »

Installation from .iso file

I have backed up all my install cd's to external drive as .iso. I tried using a MS program, VCdControlTool.exe to create a virtual drive but can't get it to work, windows explorer can't find the drive. Has anyone used this program or know of a similar program that will let me run the file without burning to a cd.... more »

How to keep burned files from becoming read-only on a CD?

I have a small program which hashes a group of files before burning. When I go to use the hash to check whether all the files were copied correctly, I find that the file holding the hash results is read-only and won't work. How do you burn files without them becoming read-only on a CD?
