Wow, I'd forgotten about that. You're right!

It's well documented that sales of undershirts took a dive in 1934
>>because of men wanting to have something in common with Clark Gable.

How about the Forrest Gump haircut briefly popular after its initial
release?

Then there are all the catch phrases that become part of the language, like
"make my day." There are thousands of these, I'd say.

"Forrest Gump" inspires Dan Quayle to become a presidential candidate.

Unless my spelling is totally atrocious, it has only unleashed a new
word on America...

Language. Catch phrases from movies have become immensely popular. Great
ones include "May the Force be with you" and "There can be only one", and
"They may take our lives but they can never take our freedom!". No prizes
for guessing which movies they come from. People have also adopted methods
of speaking (tone, accent, style, etc) that have appeared in movies.
Stereotyped surfer slang and speech have been on the lips of many, and
also people trying to imitate a dowdy 70-for-his-IQ fellow speak about his
mama's chocolates.

Clothes and related items are also an indication. Trenchcoats and square
shades have become immensely popular after the release of "The Matrix".
Favourite colour of such accessories include black, ebony, and jet.
Fishbowl haircuts and nerd fashion enjoyed a renewal after the release of
"Dumb and dumber". Buck-toothed fellows now have no problem being accepted
in society.

If you want to dig deeper, though, some teenagers with advanced
psychological disorders often compare themselves with their favourite
movie characters, thus adopting their idiosyncrasies and habits.
