I hooked up a Macsense MIH-120 router to my cable modem.
Unfortunately, after doing that my latency as calculated by the Microsoft Gaming
Zone is now crap, 1+ seconds, when I'm in the game rooms trying to join a game.

With a "red ping" (in zone parlance), nobody wants to play with me any more.
It used to be, pre-router, that nearly all zone pings were "green" for me.
(less than 300 ms).

It's definitely the router. My machine and software hasn't changed.

Two curious things:
1) once a game is launched from the gaming zone such that you end up in the
'pre-game-start' of a game (I play Age of Kings), then latencies are normal
again. So the game doesn't lag, and latencies reported by AOK before the game
starts are fine.

2) After playing a game on the zone, when I return to the zone chat rooms, the
latencies are substantially better, though still nowhere near what they were
pre-router.

Any clues?

The latencies of the zone don't fare any better or worse based on whether the
machine is on the router DMZ or not. I'm running the latest router firmware,
1.14f I believe.

Macsense hasn't responded to my query.

Please post your reply here and I'll pick it up.
