OK - this is a shot in the dark.

Ever see the movie F/X ? The main character lives in a loft , and has this
wicked manual elevator lift thingie
that moves him from level 1 to level 2. It's OPEN, and I really didn't
notice any counterbalancing weights attached - though there might have been.
He steps in, and swoosh - he goes up a level. Same thing when going down.

It looked like 2 poles mounted floor to ceiling, with a horizontal platform
that had holes in it that the poles went through.
The horizontal platform could not have been more than 3 feet by 2 feet in
size.

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

I'm interested to either buy the guts and get it installed, or build the
thing myself.
Replies here, please - my email addy will bounce.

the type of elevator you are looking for was ised in 20-30's mills.
Therre was a hole with a rope on left and right. If you pulled down you
would go up, pull up and the platform went down. There was somekind of
metal plate you moved to stop, if you didn't flip it soon enough you
went by the floor you wanted. Libray should have books on this old
system,

Thanks Henry. I'll go do some research.
