Following the arrest of 68 people on Friday, and 958 yesterday on
Saturday, police today arrested 257 demonstrators, "kettling" a section
of a march near Osterport station, and as they had done on Saturday,
cuffed the protesters and put them onto buses transporting them to a
detention centre."

I can see Bonfils wandering the streets with a guitar, liberating them
as he goes. The Police dropping the protesters, the protesters putting
flowers into the Police's hair (or onto their helmets and stuff).
It would be like that scene from the Bourne Supremacy, where the guys
watching on the cameras go..." That's Jason Bourne".
Only it would be done with kewl music instead of, you know, kick
boxing. And Bonfils is handsomer than Matt "Matt Damon" Damon.
Best wishes

Well, if they can use rock music in PSYOPS against Noriega
it seems feasible to use Bonfils to clear the streets.
I'm a bit unclear on the concept of "kettling". Is it followed by
"boiling" and "serving with fava beans and chianti"?

And I'm actually writing this to the sound of the incessant whirr of
helicopters outside my windows. I feel a bit like Ray Liotta in
"Goodfellas", only without the cocaine, and where's the fun in that?

You see, the thing is: Denmark being one of the most peaceful countries
in the world, our police just don't know what to do. At the slightest
sign of civil unrest, they go what might be accurately described as
"batshit crazy".
Add to that a current government that seems to have a hard time grasping
the concept of "rule of law" (not surprising as not even the Minister of
Justice has any law schooling as far as I know) and stuff like this is
bound to happen.

As you can probably tell from my posts, my brand of political activism
is purely talk the talk. Walk the walk, not so much.

No wonder. Apparently, there were riots at Christinia (across the street
from where I live). 200+ arrests, tear gas etc.

Sheesh. The things you find on the net...

It looks like far too many of us have not seen "Team America" yet.
I'll remember to bring it to next year's winter solstice eclipse
party.

No wonder Birgitte thought she might be next. That was pretty darn close
and it sure looked like they arrest first and ask questions later. But I
have to admit that one of my fondest memories of youth was unjustified
self-righeousness and a little tear gas.

Well when you're that age nothing in the world outside is your fault and all
of the answers are clear. It's one of the benefits of being young.

I have done the tear gas thing in the military. Unpleasant.

Thankfully, she wasn't out in the middle of *that*. She just witnessed the
peaceful start of the demonstrations some hours earlier.

Ah, if only young people could have the passion for justice *without* the
self-righteousness...
But no - it doesn't work that way, does it?

Judging from the discussions I read, older people often feel the same way.
The difference is, we just sit around and complain instead of all this
fighting in the streets.
In fact, as for it not being their fault, they do have a point: When you're
too young to even vote - and much less hold political office - all the
decisions *have* actually been taken by other people.
> I have done the tear gas thing in the military. Unpleasant.
I've had a whiff of it twice.
Once while playing a gig (some idiot brought a tear gas grenade to a
disco).
And a few months ago when I was outside to pick up my laundry - because I
live next door to freaking Christiania!
