Very cool picture of the night-time Earth from the space station. See
if you can find Diego Garcia's runway lights. <g>

My fiance has a real good friend in Diego Garcia in charge of the
USAF airstrip. At least I think he is in charge of it. One of the
guys anyways. He's a Major in the USAF. Small world eh.

When I was there a very bantam-rooster USN O-5, ex-astronaut corps,
ex-F-14 driver, was in charge. The USAF types were few and far
between, mostly a det. to service C-141s coming out of Pakistan with
Soviet retrograde from Afghanistan, and to mind the SR-71 fuel farm.
Times changed after DS I suppose. When I was there the major airborne
residents were P-3 squadrons looking for Soviet SSNs snooping around
the battle group, and S-3 shuttle flights.

I have a few pictures of DG from those days. May post them someday.

The part that fascinates me is the Korean peninsula. You could
almost put a straight edge along that line of light and dark.

Yikes.. South Korea almost looks like an Island. The one light in North
Korea seems to be Pyongyang. Makes one wonder how much of the Asian
technology boom has even poked it's nose into that place. Bad enough, the
reports of famine.
