Since I drive 3 hours each day to and from work, audio CD
has been my method of choice for "reading" the Dark Tower,
LOTR, Silmarillian, and most others. I am currently about halfway
done with The Talisman and am already looking forward to Black
House. I have actually been checking for BH on audio CD for a
couple of years and can't understand why it's not available. I know
that an audio download version is available, but my car doesn't have
an MP3 player, just regular CD and cassette. So I got a hold of a
used set of Black House on audio cassette for the ridiculously low
price of $3 on amazon. But the question remains, why isn't Black
House available on audio CD while Talisman is? There seems to
be more obscure books than BH available on audio CD. This just
sort of baffles me. Any thoughts? By the way, I'm really enjoying
The Talisman much more than I thought I would. Should have
listened to it years ago.

Thanks,

JohnnyO

I did the download route and then burned it to CD. Fortunately, my car
takes CDRW disks, but YMMV. :) Took about 10 disks, if I recall correctly.

I'm just re-reading it in rectangular, paperback format. It's one of my
favourite books and I read it every couple of years. :) Black House is
quite different in style and tone, but I still enjoyed it. :)

I wasn't sure if you could split the downloaded file into multiple
CD-R discs. Maybe the thing to do would be to copy the
downloaded file to a different name, then split it up into portions
that are under 700mb each (650mb for CD-RW)....
10 disks - hmmm, Talisman is about 25.

If you're talking about Audible (which is where I got mine), you can use
iTunes or the Audible client thingummie to burn a CD. Those programs
automagically do the splitting for you. :)

D'oh. I actually meant to type 'about 20 disks'. :) Sorry; didn't
notice I'd goofed until I read your reply. :) My CDRWs are 80 minutes.

Hope that helps a bit, anyway. :D

I bought a gadget for about $15 that slips into the tape player and has a
cord with the audio earphone thing on the end (1/8") so I can play my Ipod
or Sansa player or whatever in the car. I think I got Black House either on
CD from the L.A.library or downloaded the mp3 from www.lapl.org (free but
only lasts 3 weeks then it dies.) Many libraries have the service, and all
you need is a library card.

Sounds like the cassette adapter that I used to use to play my
add-on XM radio thru my car's cassette player instead of
tuning to a certain FM station. Eventually, it started randomly
ejecting from the cassette deck so I stopped using it and now
I just broadcast the XM signal to a seldom-used FM station on
the car radio. Regarding Black House on audio CD, I ended
up buying a used set of cassettes on amazon.com for about
$2.98. Well worth the money, especially considering that
rare Black House audio CDs are currently going for
$259 - $418 on amazon (seriously).
