I was reading alt.books.raymond-feist FAQ-Feist posted on
Feb. 4th, 2009.
I am not able to connect to the web address
http://www.students.uat.edu/jefjonai/feist/elis/f_book.html
that is in it (error: The IP address for the website you requested
could not be found).
Are there problems with the server the page link refers to, or is
the link out of date?
Thanks.

There's only one official site, and that's at http://wwww.crydee.com

This list has been nearly death for any number of years. I monitor it
out of habit and only respond when a non-spam post pops up on my
newsreader. For most of my current info you can get that off the
Feist-fans mailing list (see the above web site for details on how to
join) or on the web site, or on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter (refeist)

I read usenet with Google Groups. This in the case I wished to post
something that has already been asked/answered before.
The faq I found was at address:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.books.raymond-feist/browse_thread/thread/b0a7ef459d1d531c#
I found it using the following address:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.books.raymond-feist/topics?start=0&sa=N
(you should be able to browse back in time with your internet browser,
if you wish to read old posts/mailings and to find tha FAQ - actually
divided in 3 parts - I was speaking of)

Neither do I.

Gri,

Old old stuff that was around oh say 1999 that was stored there. It
was proper forum for most newgroups to have FAQs. Those FAQs where to
be posted in a biannual period to the newsgroup and also be avalible
on the World Wide Web to cut down on traffic. Most newgroups followed
that behavior so it seemed polite to do the same.

Over time this newsgroup died and so did everything else associated
with it. If you go to Johns site at crydee.com you will get more
current and probally correct information.

The student that went to that trade school was granted a 10MB and free
email address for being alumni to that school and the web site is
hosted on the 10MB space.

The address was an old assciation which is why it started with
students.uat.edu

REF,
I will give you no other comment beyond this and I find your responce
slightly insulting.

No insult intended, but as no one apprised me of a FAQ for this group
(1999 was before I monitored this newsgroup) nor it being stored on an
account by anyone, I plead only ignorance.

I did want to make it clear that while I'll answer questions here should
they arise, the official sites and places I usually communicate are as
listed above.

I resent that. I've been checking this newsgroup on a daily basis for quite
a few years now and I'm not a necrophilliac.

LOL

I appreciate the concern over your reputation.

The fact is when I started on-line communication, I was using a 300 baud
modem (and an Apple }{e with a Martian green screen) and newsgroups,
BBS's, and online services like GEnie, CompuServe, etc. were all there
was.

I could sometimes count on a thousand messages a day spread out over two
dozen groups, and this group was pretty modest even then.

Now, I'm lucky if I see a new message twice a month.

I miss certain aspects of the text-only reality, but the fact is,
everything has been migrating to the web for the last decade, and
newsgroups are dying (albeit slowly).

Heh! I have to try to salvage *something* of it.

I was a little later to it than you were as the WWW was learning to crawl
when I first accessed the internet with my Amiga 500 (soon replaced by a
wintel box).

One of the older newsgroups then?

> Now, I'm lucky if I see a new message twice a month.

Agreed. There seems to be a flurry immediately before and after a new book
hits the various international markets but the tumbleweed does tend to blow
through most of the rest of the time. Yet I still refresh it probably four
times a day on average (along with my other dozen of so groups).

Alas, usually others have the book a while before I do so, at the times when
the group has the most traffic I'm usually not reading here so as to avois
any spoilers.

If usenet does vanish then I intend to be one of the last people clinging on
for dear life. I really like the medium, it's purity.. (Heh! I'm obviously
not the wordsmith here...)

Guig,

REF can defend himself if he likes to or not. And your quoting the
wrong part that I was "slightly insulted" on.

Next time dude before you jump to conclusions about my life. You might
want to read the whole thing before you write something. Then read the
tone that the message was typed in and think about their word choice.
I said slightly insulting, does that now mean I was insulted. If I
really cared about the past I would go on and on and flame REF, but I
didn't. I was venting my feels about it in the one sentence, the end.

Are you sure? I wouldn't call that necrophilia, more like obsessive
compulsive disorder <g>.

LOL! I am subscribed to this group and, as such it's automatically checked
every time I click "Sync All" at least once a day but usually several times
a day, to check my higher-traffic groups.

Not that there's anything wrong with OCD. <g>
