WYADUCK here...

Well, I finally started "Timequake" last night. I'm still going to try
very hard to keep my mouth shut about it. God knows I want to get on a
conference call with all of you and blab all about it. How weird to read a
Vonnegut book and have no one to exchange thoughts about it.

The reason I had to post to the NG right now is because I'm a little
delirious. I'm not trying to gloat, but I can now say I'll die happy. I've
lived every Vonnegut fan's ultimate dream...

... I'm in the book. (!!)

I was reading along at 3:00AM last night, and suddenly turned the page,
and Holy Mackerel! There I was! A character in the book. I play myself.

O.K.. maybe "character" is taking this too far. It's a brief mention. The
deal is this: In the year 2001, Kilgore Trout is about to die. (I'm not
giving anything away here. KV tells you this in the first pages.) He is in
the Ernest Hemingway suite at a writer's retreat called Xanadu in Point
Zion, Rhode Island. There are a number of people (Kurt among them)
attending a clam bake on the beach in Trout's honor. It appears as though
I am one of the guests. The book actually makes mention of a number of
Kurt's real-life friends and family. It's extremely autobiographical. It
is certainly his most FUN book since "Breakfast of Champions" and maybe
the STRANGEST book he's ever written.

The thing that actually quite choked me up at 3:00 in the morning, was he
referred to me as one of the people who made him (Kurt) want to continue
on in his sunset years. Imagine that. I got up in the middle of the night
and faxed him a thank-you.

Again, I'm not on here to show off, but Jesus, could you imagine reading a
Kurt Vonnegut book and seeing yourself referenced this way? Who else can I
share my excitement with besides you guys (and my girlfriend)?

Well, this is already more than I intended to write.

Cheers, WYADUCK

WYADUCK,

I'm new to this list (But a long time Vonnegut fan), how do you know him? or,
how did you meet him? and when is the book going to be released to the public?

Sorry if these are all stupid questions.....

The First Book of Bokonon:
..And God created every living creature that now moveth, and one was man...
God leaned close as mud as man sat up, looked around, and spoke. . .
"What is the purpose of all this?" he asked politely.
"Everything must have a purpose?" asked God.
"Certainly," said Man.
"Then I leave it to you to think of one for all this," said God.
And He went away.

Well, (sniffle)

I was gonna give up reading this newsgroup, but then you came into my
life, WYADUCK, and...Well, you saved it for me. (sniffle) You gave me a
reason to go on reading. (honk, sniffle)

What I'm trying to say is...I love ya, man.

Frank

P.S. Sincere congrats. It is quite an honor.

Congrats! That must have been pretty spooky when you ran across it. At
least he didn't have another character go berserk and bite off your finger
or something (unless you didn't want to spoil the surpise for us ;-)

Hello,

I'm also wondering about when Timequake will be available to the
public... any idea on that, Wyaduck?

Whenever I have news like that, it goes up on the NG right away. If I
haven't posted it, it means I don't know yet.
