I need to go back and do a re-read to be sure my brain didn't strip a gear
but I think Drake made an oops.

I think he spoke of a group of genes made for a high gravity world with low
atmospheric pressure. I think the number 30% came up.

If that is what the text really said, um, no.

High gravity is going to produce more active volcanic activity which means
more water and atmosphere. I suppose the continents would just be higher and
maybe smaller with a lot more earthquakes and volcanic eruptions but I'd
expect the reverse of thin air.

I thought over the short lived slave idea somebody put forward and for
manual labor I suppose a slave owner might want slaves to rupture an aorta
or something about the time their work started to fall off but office
workers and domestic staff should be good for longer. My data also suggests
that it wouldn't take a heck of a lot of tinkering to get humans who could
live two or three time our 3 score and ten based on what a little selective
breeding has done for other organisms.

Healthy long lived slaves who don't need much in the way of medical care
should bring a premium. In other words most slaves should not be all that
short lived other than not being given costly life extending treatments.

They did basically confirm that many slaves have genes that were tested for
the alpha/gamma lines of Mesa though the slaves don't have the same
combinations.

Of course this suggests they are rather inadvertently spreading those genes
around with the slaves.

Of course this is the opposite of what manpower as a slave producing
organization should have been doing unless they were creating a gene custom
designed colonist for harsh worlds.

Most slaves should have personalities and abilities which would make them
good at what they needed to be good at and not so good at most other things.
Logic suggests that office worker types should have been small undersexed,
rather long lived female types that avoid confrontations at almost any cost
for example.

Heavy manual labor might be somewhat learning impaired, easily intimidated
and rather placed.

What they were actually making was actually physically and mentally better
than the norm and by no means born door mats which more or less guarantees
you are going to have trouble controlling them.

There was a line about sex slaves spending much of their lives drugged but
stupid, people who enjoy sex a lot with a limited capacity for long range
planning might have been a smarter option if you mean to keep them as a
product.
Of course their descendants wouldn't have improved the race either.
