Totally useless yet interesting piece of trivia there.

Hey, I cannot help what local radio stations play :-)
(And TV. _Old Man River_, _Bye Bye Love_, and _Just a Gigolo_ were
on the show last night, as it happens. Plus some Marilyn Monroe song
that I might have been able to name if I had been more into movies ...
And plenty more recent music, of course. Oh, and a bar or so from one
of Grieg's dances ...)

Surprisingly close, considering that the test was probably written
for Americans ...
I am 31. And in those 31 years, I never saw an American commercial.
Plenty of (recent) parodies: "Got milk/nachitos/perl/hemoglobin/etc",
most notably. But no parody of the pepsodent, brylcream, M&M, nor
wonder bread commercial. It must be my taste in music and comics that
makes me seem older. :-)

Yes, the test was fun, but -- how does "how old am I" follow,
exactly?
Fish
(American of 51 who got nearly all of them).
> Yes, the test was fun, but -- how does "how old am I" follow,

Well, since an IQ test measures your IQ and an alcohol test measures
your alcohol level, I figured an age test should measure your age.
Or were you wondering how Daryl's answer followed? I know I do. :-)
Actually, my answers were intended to point out that this test does
not work too well for non-Americans. And after I answered fourteen
questions with those words, I am disappointed that no one answered my
"how old am I?" with a sincere "no clue".
All that setup and then no payoff. Oh well. I guess not becoming
a stand-up comedian was a smart career choice after all.

The question of Americans aside, to my warped and literal way of
thinking an age test should indicate age more than recognition of pop
culture of the Boomers could allow. :)
For example: If someone knew all varieties of Pokemon but didn't have
a clue about the slogan "Is this trip really necessary?" or know who
the Fonz was, this might be indicative of an age under 14; if he got
the middle question but missed the other two, perhaps he'd be over
70, etc.
Fish

Humor folks, I gave a definite answer to a question that could hardly be
deduced from the data. (like answering Mickey Reynolds to the question "who
wrote the book of love".) I tried to guess based on your correct answers but
your actual age was really irrelevent to the answer I gave.
> Actually, my answers were intended to point out that this test does

It wasn't a serious test, more of a memory jogger for us ancients.

I thought my answer was funnier, especially since you thought it was serious.
Please note: I was a lot closer than Michael

Ancient Americans only, methinks.

I did now? So much for my humourous aspirations. (Hey, what do you
know, "dead-pan" is actually a dictionary word.)
> Please note: I was a lot closer than Michael
Well, that depends. Michael did not specify "years". If those are
57 solstices, he would be as close as you :-)
LOL!
Well, all I can say is that Daryl's was brought up with the stuff in his
bones, those of us on the other side of the Atlantic had to absorb it in
dribs and drabs! So it took longer.
Or am I wrong again about Daryl's nationality?

Marvelous one. Almost scary to have got as many right as I did.
BTW, as to familiarity with Boomer pop culture: the optimal age for this
quiz is surely a little to high to be a Boomer. The oldest Boomer was
about 5 years away from voting when Tricky Dick Nixon made his famous
withdrawal from politics, and none but the oldest would have seen Howdy
Doody.
Which reminds me,
27. "Cecil, the ___-____ ___ _______" (Stan Freberg's first gig, by the

What?? No. The baby boom years were 1946 to 1964. All
those lonely soldiers returning from WWII, you know.
The earliest boomers reached voting age in 1967. I
can remember Howdy Doody and I wasn't born until 1953.
By the time I was seven the teenage rock and roll era
was in full swing and Elvis Presley (already old news
in rock and roll) was making movies.

My mistake. Just how long did Mr Doody stay on the air, anyway?

Human rights in Cuba: 600 prisoners held 18 months and more,
without charge, without bail, without counsel, facing trial by
secret special tribunals with power to impose the death
penalty. And that's just one place. Guantanamo.

I don't know. My memories of Howdy Doody are very
ancient. I can remember the man saying, "what time
is it boys and girls?". And I remember a whole bunch
of kids responded with, "It's Howdy Doody time". That's
about all. I seem to recall that the kids on the show
all seemed to be 'big kids', so I couldn't have been
very old.
