Thanks people, but when I go to the site it still says I need an Invite! ??

Oh no! Nooooooooooo!!! It's a glitch! A gremlin! The system is fucked-up, and we're all going to Hell! Those TheBox.bz shits. I said to them, I said "Hey, give zmumsg an invite, or else". That's what I said. And they've shafted us both, gznums! They've gone back on their word! If I were you, I'd complain. I really would. Yes.

I'm a member of thebox.bz, and I have a spare invite that none of my friends seems to want, but I'm not going to give it to you, for these reasons:
1. I've never heard of you before. How do I know you're not an "anti-piracy" organisation's agent?
2. Users of thebox.bz are rightly held partly responsible for the behaviour of the new members they invite.
3. You talk about GETTING stuff, not SHARING stuff, which suggests that you don't understand the most basic BT principles.
4. Anybody who's clueless enough to ask for invites on Usenet is probably also clueless enough not to read the rules carefully before leeching 20GB without even being connectable. And then you'll WHINE in the forums, and I'll have to read your WHINES.
Wait and hope that open registration will one day be enabled again.

LOL, well said.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The home page says:
"Signups to the site are closed. They will not be open again today. They will not be open again tomorrow. They will not be open again this week. They will not be open next week. Look after your account, you won't be able to get another one."
I'm happy that my ratio there is 1.4 and climbing. 6.2GB "in the bank". -- TTFN,

It might be worth it for them then to announce it to a person before they download one of their torrents.
I have 300gig of stuff I want to seed, and about 75 gig I want to have, and I can't get into TheBox.bz - (and trying to contact them is a waste of time, smart of them not to provide a working email address.
Sounds like a rip off to me, though I wish it was otherwise.

How is it a rip off? I have Ratio: 1.617 UL: 40.34 GB DL: 24.95 GB through careful usage It's very easy to say "I have 300GB to share" it isn't like Limewire where it shares anything in a designated folder. The Box doesn't require you to share new things to get credit, it just needs you to share what you have downloaded.
Keep trying for open registrations, when i joined I just signed up one day to try and get 1 episode of a show they had, and was admitted. Just pure luck that registrations were open, I hadn't even heard of the box before then.

Folks might be SOOL if they intend to wait for open reg at The Box. The last official word was it would be 2008 at the earliest before they opened again and currently there's a members poll asking if members would like registrations opened periodically or keep it invite-only.
Currently 54.8% of the members want it to be invite only. I'm one of them. -- TTFN,

Why is that?
Apparently, given the shutdown of many invitation-only bittorent sites like demonoid and oink, it seems invitation-only systems offer little protection against the copyright nazis. I'm downloading and uploading at the piratebay now and I think it's great they don't require an invite. Knowledge and information should be freely accessible to everyone and not just to people who happen to be rich or savvy about technology.

To answer your question; I voted for invite only as the moderators have been complaining about the amount of time it's been taking pruning accounts and sending out warnings. Also previously-banned users have been re-registering when registration has been open and leeching again until they get banned, only to repeat the process next time registration is open....
I'd rather see a small community of commited, fair minded folks then one with a constantly rotating element who put load on the moderator's workload.
As you said, there's places like Piratebay for folks who want to hit'n run, or even leech then seed. -- TTFN,

Are they mental or can they just not bring themselves to seed out of some kind of misguided principle.

But how are commited, fair minded folks supposed to join this community? If they can only join by already knowing someone who is a member of this community, I think this severely limits the potential number of commited, fair minded folks who are able to join and contribute to the community.
For instance, as can be seen from my upload record on piratebay (*), I'm fairly comitted to sharing and yet I'm unable to join invite-only sites, simply because I don't happen to know people who are already a member and people seem unwilling to spare me an invite despite the fact that I can substantiate my claims about having a lot of material available for sharing and having shared a lot of material with other people in the past.
I think it would be more reasonable to use a kind of system on a torrent site of privileges that users can earn by contributing/sharing rare/new material and maybe penalties for downloading without seeding. But basically if people are unable to join a community that means the community is failing to exploit the full potential of p2p. The key should be motivating people to share, but not being too strict with them if they merely leech occasionally, as some people might be forced to leech in certain cases by their ISP because of copyright infringement threats. I got threats from my ISP in the past myself and that forced me to avoid seeding TTC videos I was downloading from demonoid, but I would seed other stuff that appeared to be less risky to share. But just because someone downloads something without seeding, I think it doesn't necessarily imply that person is egocentric and only thinking about him or herself. It can depend on many factors and I think the community would be best served by a flexible attitude instead of a rigid rule that people must necessarily share whatever they download right away without allowing exceptions to that rule.

I believe that THAT is the point, if the Only way that one can join is at the Pleasure of someone who is already a member, by asking, begging, dealing or getting in good with them through boards like this one - well then those of us on the Outside had best remember our place. We must never seek to say/do/imply anything that might annoy or upset a member, lest we NEVER get the Chance at an invitation that is dangled like a piece of chees at the end of a string.
Put another way - They HAVE it, we WANT it and we had better remember to apply the three "W" (Whose to kiss, What to kiss and When to kiss it) if we ever wish to be invited into the old boys club. (The only thing MORE enjoyable than being able to step on someone's face, is to watch them willingly Kneel for it in front of you.)
I've heard talk on copyright nazis, but based on some other things I have read Here:
"Yes, I have a spare invite - but I won't give it to *you*"
TRANSLATION
"You had the nerve to post here and ASK. Do you not know that WE only give such things to those who GROVEL before us. Kneel you dog and BEG us, and Maaaaayyyyybeeeee Soooomdaaaay we MIGHT allow you to join us, possibly."
WHO is it who is wearing the jackboots again?
Hell, No Wonder the curent membership doesn't want "just anybody" (Meaning Us, the rif-raf) to be able to join. If That happened, they would lose a good bit of power.
Now, I know that in daring to SAY any of this here, I lose my chance, though I will Still look around other places and hope that the moderators of the site might someday opend the boarders, but I am afraid I've never been good at licking boots. When my boyfriends used to give me the "F*ck or walk" choice, I walked (Unless he was cute LOL).
Sorry for stating my honest opinion. At this point, hell, I only wanted the damned thing for one series in particular anyway.

I wonder how thebox.bz will ever hope to survive without clueless idiots like you.

Through perseverance and apllication (not supplication). Same way I joined Torrent-Damage, Demonoid, TheBox, Diwana, UKNova......

With the current climate limiting the number of members, and thereby the profile of a tracker can only be seen as a good thing no?

Is your material sourced from UK TV? Can you upload it faster than the dedicated uploaders that are already doing sterling work (pun intended) at TheBox?
If the answer is "No" to either of those questions then what you are able to upload is useless to TheBox.
Some interesting stuff there. Is any of it sourced from UK TV?

Or it means that they have finite resources and also don't want to bring down the wrath of the xxIA.

Copyright infringement threats that could point to the tracker.
You speak of ideals, which are fine. However you can't expect one tracker to fulfill all these things for you surely?

And Demonoid went down. Now you want to join another private tracker? Maybe it's not a coincidence that you got warnings about your Demonoid uploads, then Demonoid went down?

Excellent ideals for "the community". Why you seemingly want to project these ideals on one tracker, (and perhaps bring down the wrath of IP police) onto one tracker is odd though.
You seem to be doing well enough at The Pirate Bay. Also, they seem to have dodged the bullet a couple times. Perhaps you should stick with them? -- TTFN,

Marie, if you don't mind me offering an opinion (and really you have no choice, you posted this on a public forum), you really have powerlessness issues (low self-esteem using bravado as a coping mechanism for starters) that you would probably benefit from talking to a good psychologist about. I won't speculate about what bought you to this attitude you have, (but you have my sincere sympathies) or how much it effects your ability to function well in society. However, this post of yours speaks volumes about your state of mind.

And yet, when people apply for an invitation here, they typically get the finger or rude insults flung at them. Nice way to encourage people to support the community. (I'm not accusing you, but people in general in this group.)

If you think it's a good thing p2p goes down the drain, yes.

Well, my posting was intended as a kind of discussion of invitation bittorrent sites in general, not thebox in particular.
> Some interesting stuff there. Is any of it sourced from UK TV?
That's irrelevant (if we talk about invitation bittorrent sites in general instead of focussing on particular ones like thebox).

The wrath of the xxIA is something they will have to deal with anyway. It seems to me they better move to a country that at least has some degree of independence from the fascist police states of America, like Sweden.

I was talking about trackers in general. Sorry for the confusion.

I didn't upload the material there, I downloaded it from demonoid and I upload it now on piratebay. I think it's inevitable that the copyright nazis will bring down piratebay just the same (they already brought it down for a short while). It's not a question of whether or not it will happen, but when it will happen.

The issue for me is that there seems to be little material on the piratebay to expand my collection. At demonoid there was often new material available so I could continually expand my collection. I'm at thebox.bz now (I didn't even need an invite) and it seems there is some interesting material there, but not the sort of stuff I'm after in particular (primarily educational stuff like ttc videos and tutorial videos from lynda, vtc, ..).
