Description: We are searching for a motivated software engineer with solid experience in the area of embedded C/C++ mobile software development to be a major contributor to our wireless GPS device application development activities. The candidate must have strong analytical, development, integration, and troubleshooting skills to understand application requirements and interfaces and design, develop, and test mobile application software. The Sr. Software Engineer will focus on Company’s wireless device application software development activities. The candidate will work closely with our Sr. Applications Architect and partner and vendor software, hardware, and integration teams to solve technical challenges in support of application development and rollout. In this role, you will design, develop, and test wireless client applications for a new wireless GPS tracking consumer service initiative and support the integration of new application software into product releases.
Candidates should be senior software developers with proven experience in designing and developing in an embedded software development environment. Candidates should have experience with software architecture definition, requirements development, solving challenging technical problems, and developing high-quality software. Professional attributes should include a successful track record following software engineering principles and implementing innovative solutions, strong communications skills, mentoring skills and customer and partner relationship management skills.
This is a great opportunity for someone with previous embedded mobile application development experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in all aspects of the wireless mobile application software development lifecycle, including, but not limited to: analyzing technical application requirements, designing a software solution around those requirements, and implementing the solution.
• Day to day responsibilities include design, development, testing, and debugging of application code.
• Interpret requirements specifications, design solutions, and produce functional code for testing in a unit and system test environment, as well as production code for integration onto wireless client devices.
• Conduct unit tests to verify work independently and also provide quality assurance feedback on system level integration and verification/validation.
• Work closely with the product development team to integrate application software.
• Investigate and evaluate new and emerging applications and technologies.
• Develop software specifications, design documentation, test procedures and "script" files to drive automated software simulation and automated testing.
• Conduct informal and formal hardware/software integration testing.
• Vendor and/or partner technical evaluations.
• Develop patent ideas.
EXPERIENCE:
• Embedded H/W and S/W design experience.
• Proficiency with C and C++ required
• Experience with M2M modules/devices highly desirable.
• Familiar with GPS or A-GPS location technologies and methods.
• Experience with SMS and GSM/GPRS.
• Experience with device software design for low-power consumption.
• Familiar with L2 and L3 communication stack architectures.
• Experience with programming ARM microcontrollers.
• Hands on knowledge of software compilers, editors, debuggers
• Experience with USB drivers, LED controllers, etc.
• Basic knowledge of network protocols: IP, UDP, TCP and Ethernet.
• Good familiarity and hands on experience with UML methodology is a plus.
• Experience with Rational tools a plus.
• Embedded real time software development
QULAIFICATIONS:
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science is strongly preferred.
• 8+ years software development.
• Object Oriented Analysis and Design and UML modeling experience.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in integration and testing of application or wireless services and/or products.
• Mobile application experience is a plus.
• Proven experience with full software development lifecycle.
• Professional working knowledge of network and security protocols and techniques (TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, etc.).
• Familiarity with GPS, GSM, GPRS
• Ability to assess program needs and define solutions.
• Strong leadership skills and creative thinker.
• Ability to effectively interface with internal staff, partners, and vendors.
• Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Must be a self-starter with strong problem solving skills.
