Description: DESCRIPTION:
Candidates need 5+ years of experience in variety of complex administrative and technical work in managing DB/2 and/or UDB database(s). Troubleshooting, and system management within a large scale IT structure. In depth experience with DB/2 System Administration, Relational Database Support & Development, Database Maintenance & Upgrade Utilities, Database Performance & Capacity Process, Online Transactional Systems and Application Development Support required.
Administer data and system programming in database computing environment, including installation, configuration, security, resource monitoring and reporting, troubleshooting, and development of specialized programs.
Coordinates software issues with other groups including applications and operations; maintains enterprise on the "leading edge" of current database technology, offering highest reliability and performance possible.
Preserves standards and controls necessary infrastructure process associated with enterprise database(s).
Assists as source of documentation and standards to help direct activities of SSG as a whole; works closely with other groups to coordinate current and future plans and activities including coordination and technical assistance to facilitate specific development projects that involve computing environment, the coordination of software upgrades and installation of new products.
Helps in database design, programming, troubleshooting and management of problems affecting enterprise database applications, as well as developing the area for future expansion.
Furnishes senior technical leadership to database design teams, database programming group, SSG, and the enterprise including being conversant with and cognizant of future direction of systems, how that direction will impact the enterprise, and how future and current systems can be exploited for benefit of the enterprise.
Helps in troubleshooting and technical system support for the database administration group including the monitoring and reporting of group activities; assists in daily activities of members of DBA group.
Furnishes periodic reports on system problems and their solutions, as well as assisting in forecasts of future utilization and equipment requirements.
Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially concerning future business expansion.
Maintains contact with applications and technical support personnel from computer hardware and software companies; within the enterprise, keeps up contacts with help desk, with application and operations staff, and occasionally with enterprise personnel outside of SSG for troubleshooting and development of specifications.
