The BBS!

A step backward?  Outmoded?   Not "stylish" enough?  A dying
breed?

Some people think so... but many of our Bulletin Board Systems
(BBS) are still up and running "full-bore".  Several of our
well-connected systems give you access to free, usually 100%
virus free text based e-mail (no pictures or file attachments.)
Many are virtually spam free.

Many of our systems host networked forums (conferences or
"Echos") on countless topics - - or in some cases, you can start
your own.  Almost all are free of spammers.

Many of our systems have elaborate games you can take part in,
some of which are league networked to systems around the world.

Some of our systems (the ones with very high-speed connections to
the net) will actually let you browse the web through special
text based web browsers (very fast and powerful but takes a
little learning.)

AND there are STILL some of these systems that offer dial-up
connections.  Connections that, on some systems, allow someone
with no access to the internet to communicate with others around
the world.

All this with NO invasion of YOUR computer with junkware or
viruses through simple Telnet or website and sometimes dial-up
connections.

BBS - an older alternative to the Internet's junk.
