6. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans
UPDATED OCT. 1ST! Major Announcement from the Colonial Fan Force!
UPDATED OCT. 1ST! With the publishing of the Colonial Fan Force ad in Daily
Variety on 17 September 2004, and the imminent release of the Fall issue of
Cinescape magazine, the focus of the Colonial Fan Force mission has shifted
from fundraising to letter writing. That according to Colonial Fan Force
President Bill Gordon. "Now that the ads are out there, there is increasing
awareness of this effort," said Gordon. "There's been a small spike in hits
at the Colonial Fan Force website, and we expect that to increase once
Cinescape hits the stands." Gordon notes that this is not the time for fans
to sit back and rest on the laurels of there fundraising victory. "The ads
were always considered just to be 'phase one,'" Gordon said. "The fans knew
from the beginning that once the ads hit, it was going to be time to write
start writing the letters we urged in the ads. That time has come. That
time is now." For those who just don't have the time to compose an original
letter or postcard, the Colonial Fan Force has prepared form letters which
can be downloaded from the Colonial Fan Force website at the following
link. For those who would rather write an original letter or postcard, the
addresses are also at the following link. "I feel good about where the
campaign is right now," added Gordon. "Hollywood has seen firsthand
evidence of the continued devotion to the original, true Battlestar
Galactica, and soon, through Cinescape, everyday fans will become aware of
what we're trying to accomplish." Gordon says he expects the word to be
spread through other sources, as well. "Within two weeks of the ad coming
out," said Gordon, "some enterprising entrepreneur was already selling
copies of the Daily Variety ad on eBay." "But the main thing, right now,"
summarized Gordon, "is for everybody to write. And that's the message I'm
trying to get out right now." For more information, visit the Colonial Fan
Force homepage ColonialFanForce.org.

Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions
Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions and show your support
for a continuation of the Battlestar Galactica original series! The first
petition is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition for Tom
DeSanto, Bryan Singer, Dan Angel, Billy Brown, Glen A. Larson, Dan
Pasternack, David Kissinger, Studios USA, Vivendi Universal, Sci-Fi
Channel, and the Fox Network and states that We, the fans of the original
1978 sci-fi television series "Battlestar Galactica" are signaling our
sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) are
considered for regular roles in the new "Battlestar Galactica"
pilot/ongoing series from Studios USA/Fox Network/Sci-Fi Channel in 2002.
This is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition and currently
has 17,400+ signatures. We still support this petition, so be sure to sign
your name! The second petition is the Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch
Petition and respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer,
"Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the
Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition,
then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The third petition is the
Battlestar Galactica We The Fans Petition and states that We the fans of
the mighty Battlestar Galactica would like to see the combined work of Tom
DeSanto and Glen Larson in a major motion picture. As fans we also hope and
pray that these two men can bring about a possible continuation with both
the characters and actors that made the show a worth while venture. We
don't ask for much but hope for a show that will make those who passed
proud (Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, Jonathan Harris, and John Colicos).
Finally we believe that actions can speak louder then the printed words and
hope that both men will take this request to heart. The fourth petition is
the Battlestar Galactica: The Continuation Petition and states that The
word has been given at Galacticon. The fans want above all else a
continuation of the beloved series with Richard Hatch (Apollo), Dirk
Benedict (Starbuck), and as many of the other stars of the show who want to
participate. I don't believe we are asking for to much as evidenced by the
huge DVD sales for the original product. The fifth petition is the
Battlestar Galactica Larson/DeSanto Petition for Mr. Glen A. Larson, Mr.
Tom DeSanto, Mr. Bob Wright CEO of NBC, Universal Studios and states that
We the fans have signed this petition to show support for a Continuation of
Battlestar Galactica with the original themes/characters/cast intact, as
was announced at Glen A. Larson and Tom DeSanto at Galacticon. We support a
united Larson/DeSanto effort. This petition begins December 10th 2003,
which is one day after the final installment of the Ronald D. Moore Psuedo-
Galactica mini series which aired on the Sci Fi Channel, to show that even
after it's airing, there is still support and interest in a faithful
Continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica series. Make a
difference, be sure to sign the five Battlestar Galactica Continuation
Petitions, and help spread the word!

Audio Clips and Music
Fourth Week of July, 2004
Added the Battlestar Galactica Audio Continuation from T. Shawn Hardy, "The
Return of a Hero", to the Audio Clips and Music section. Shawn describes
the Audio Continuation as: "Twenty yahrens ago, Captain Apollo introduced
the great Celestial Chamber to a few of his closest friends in the last
episode that was titled 'The Hand of God'. Now, as the Commander, he is
sitting high up in the same chair he once occupied. He reminisces back to
that time and all that took place thereafter. Now twenty yahrens after The
Hand of God, with one distress signal coming from a portal that has
mysteriously opened up in space, Commander Apollo is forced to chose
between losing his best friend and losing his only son. The Return of a
Hero reunites the original cast along with new characters that are voiced
by some of the original Battlestar Galactica fan base. With elements from
the original Battlestar Galactica along with The Return of Starbuck and
Richard Hatch's Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming, The Return of a
Hero is a must for any Battlestar Galactica fan to hear." For the complete
Audio Continuation, be sure to visit the following link in the Audio Clips
and Music section at BattlestarGalacticaClub.com! Many thanks to T. Shawn
Hardy as well as those that participated in the project.

Colonial Fan Force Magazine Ad Published!
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
New report from Commander Taggart of ColonialFanForce.org on September
30th: "Yeppers! I just got back from the Vesuvius Post Office where a
little package from Variety has been waiting for me. As I carried the
package back to the house, I felt like I was a little kid again, having
just received some plastic bauble from the Johnson C. Smith Company ordered
from the back of a Fantastic Four comic book. I very carefully ripped away
the large manila envelope covering, which had been torn in several places
during its coast-to-coast journey. Fortunately, none of the magazines
inside had been damaged. I began flipping through the pages of the magazine
on top... past pages of articles and other full-page ads for television
shows and movies. Finally, I arrived at page 19. And there it was. And it
was beautiful." Congratulations to the Colonial Fan Force and Battlestar
Galactica fans for making the magazine ad happen! This is only an excerpt
of Commander Taggart's report, so be sure to check out the following link

Battlestar Galactica Titan Comic Book Delayed
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
The classic Battlestar Galactica comic book from Titan Comics, Battlestar
Galactica: Saga of a Star World, has been delayed to January 2005.
Amazon.com describes the comic book as follows: "Before Star Trek: The Next
Generation, Farscape and Stargate SG-1, there was 1980s cult TV series
Battlestar Galactica: the smash-hit sci-fi show that rocked the spaceways
with its legendary stories, memorable villains and awesome hair styles!
This classic comic-strip adaptation tells the story of the very first
episodes of the hit TV series. After a surprise attack by battle droids,
the Cylons, the human race faces extinction. Now the last remaining
warship, the Battlestar Galactica, leads a ragtag refugee fleet across a
savage galaxy in a desperate search for that one glimmer of hope amongst
the stars ? the planet Earth!" Thanks to Kingfish for posting the report at

Battlestar Galactica TV DVD Awards
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
New announcement from Hive4Media.com: "TV shows on DVD are the fastest-
growing sector of the DVD market, and they are forever changing the way we
watch TV. Here's your chance to vote on the best TV DVD releases of the
past year! A panel of judges took a look at more than 150 entries submitted
by the studios and independent suppliers, released between September 1,
2003, and August 31, 2004, and narrowed the choices down to three nominees
in each of the 12 categories. Now we're asking you to help select the
overall winner in each category! Simply click on one of the three nominees
in each of the 12 categories and when you're done press 'submit.' A very
important reminder: please base your decision not on the actual show, but
on the DVD treatment-- special features, menus, ease of navigation,
packaging, sound and picture, etc. The voting period is September 19
through October 2. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 19, during
the Second Annual TV DVD Conference at the Century Plaza Hotel & Spa in

Let the Media know about Daily Variety Ad
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
New report from Commander Taggart of ColonialFanForce.org: "For those who
wish to participate, I'd like to see if we can generate interest through
numbers from the broadcast media for Friday's publication of the Colonial
Fan Force ad in Daily Variety. I have been sending press releases since day
one, and have just sent reminders to the entire Colonial Fan Force media
list. In order to keep it easy on everyone (and therefore hopefully
increase participation), I'm going to ask that we narrow our focus on the
morning shows (and CNN), which have broad enough formats that we just might
get a mention. Start sending tonight, and send straight on through tomorrow
(Thursday) night. For GMA and CNN, you'll need to use the online submission
forms. Here are the addys and URL's." For the complete announcement from

New report from Richard Hatch's official webmistress Micheleh: "The artist

bio, photo, and a downloadable resume, if they want. Everyone who has been
an AOM should have a page already. If you don't have one yet and want one,
let me know! There is also a similar modelers section, and a plastic
modelers section, and all will be developed the same way. I will also be
looking to interview people in the future on the tricks of the trade."

Randi Oakes Article (Battlestar Galactica Tauran Woman)
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
Battlestar Galactica fan skippercollector posted an interesting report at
Colonial Fleets: "I know this article is only marginally related to
Galactica, but I thought some of you might like to read it. It mentions
Randi Oakes, who played the Tauran woman in the Battlestar Galactica pilot
episode and who is better known from her role [as Officer Bonnie Clark] on
CHiPs. (The article is mainly about her husband, Gregory Harrison, who is
in a play in Indianapolis.) The thing about the article that I thought was
most interesting was that you learned what the actors who appeared on
Battle of the Network Stars got paid. Most of the Galactica cast appeared
on it at one time or another. $20,000 was a lot of money in the late 70s."
For the complete article, be sure to check out the following link at

Viper Pilots Web Site Updated
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
Battlestar Galactica software writer Tanj posted a new report on his
Pyramid tribute game: "Hello Warriors! I was immediately informed of a
scoring bug in Pyramid... that has been resolved, but more importantly, the
appearance and A.I. performance have been greatly improved also.
Development of Pyramid took me away from Colonial Warrior for a bit, but I
believe the current version of Pyramid is stable and very playable, so I'll
be getting back to Colonial Warrior right away. Of course I appreciate bug
reports and comments on any of my applications, so feel free to point out
any problems you may encounter. I would also like to take this moment to
congratulate Colonial Fan Force for the excellent work they have done to
promote 'the continuation'. As the new month approaches I hope to hear the
buzz increase as Hollywood (I live in L.A. so the buzz should be clearly
audible) is made aware of the dedication, organization and admiration
'continuation' advocates have exhibited." Many thanks to Tanj for the
update. To visit his Viper Pilots Web Site be sure to check out the

Report of Stu Phillips London Seminar on August 18th
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
New report from Fox at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums: "Hi everyone!
I was lucky enough to have attended the seminar hosted by none other than
Stu Phillips at the British Composer's Association in London on Wednesday.
I have to say he was a real gent and very funny, he was promoting his new
book 'STU WHO?' which he signed for everyone and even added the opening
bars to the main Galactica theme in each book personally. I had no idea
just how prolific this man's career was and surprised to learn of his
influence during the 60's producing such classics as 'Blue Moon' and many
others. I managed to get some things signed by him including my British
Galactica quad (just a few more signatures before I get it framed!) and a
rare Japanese pressing of the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack on vinyl. He
was happy to oblige and spent time with each fan and offered to take us all
to the pub afterwards and buy each of us a drink - what a guy! Sadly we
didn't have time as we had a train to catch, but I fulfilled a dream by
finally meeting the man who has written some of the greatest scores in
television and film history. There was one more surprise - when we left the
building I noticed a huge black car parked outside reception - it was none
other than KITT from Knight Rider, and it was one of the actual screen used
cars to boot! What a great day and I highly recommend Stu's book." Thanks
to Fox for the awesome report of original Battlestar Galactica composer Stu
Phillips. And be sure to check out Stu Phillips official web site at
StuWho.com.

October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
The long-running Cylonix 18 Channel Vocodor for Windows is now available as

Read the help file. The full program (with no copy protection) can be found

A Battlestar Galactica Continuation: It's About Us
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
New report from Peter Noble of ColonialFanForce.org: "That's right, as soon
as Battlestar Galactica went off air with the showing of The Hand of God on
April 29, 1979, that's when our fandom started the campaign for a
continuation of the original story. We couldn't accept Galactica 1980 and
we can't accept nuGalactica as neither one rings true to the original work
that was laid down by all those who gave Battlestar Galactica form. Before
Hatch, Larson, DeSanto, Singer, Hammer, Moore and Eick ever emerged to
bring the concept back in some way it was we who stayed true and wrote
those letters and signed petitions and waited. We're still waiting. Ours
may be rag tag fandom of many differing opinions, but we've all worked
together by supporting the Colonial Fan Force to give it one last roll of
the dice. It's the greatest thing we as fans have ever done. Never think
that you don't matter, keep on supporting TOS in any form you can and stay
true to what you've loved and supported for nearly 26 years. I won't be
watching nuGalactica, I'll not give them a ratings point, hell, they can
stunt cast every TOS actor still breathing but it won't make me watch,
because I know deep down that's the one thing TPTB fear, is that no one/or
not enough people will watch. I've drawn my line in the sand and with
Colonial Fan Force I've helped make the strongest possible statement I as a
consumer can make. I'd urge every TOS fan to hold the line because united
we stand, divided we fall." Many thanks to Peter Noble for posting the very
well-written report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums.

Detailed Report of July San Diego Comic-Con
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
Battlestar Galactica fan Artemis posted a detailed report of the July San
Diego Comic-Con that featured Richard "Apollo" Hatch, Stargate SG-
1/Atlantas, and Farscape. Here is an excerpt from Artemis' report: "Richard
Hatch was given 1.5 hours on Friday at Comic-con during which he presented
The Great War of Magellan (GWoM) trailer and The Second Coming trailer. The
GWoM trailer was great, he only showed his shorter version, 4 minutes. The
artist for the GWoM comic was a couple seats from me and spent the entire
time sketching, it was amazing watching a talented artist work, especially
since I can't draw a thing. He also showed The Second Coming trailer which
was longer than the one I saw many years ago. For those of you who haven't
seen it, I'm sorry, your missing out on what you have wanted Battlestar
Galactica to become. He spent much of the time answering questions and the
other hot topic is his upcoming role on Battlestar Galactica 04. He had
previously refused to do a cameo role on the show because he refuses to do
cameos on anything but he told RDM that if he wrote a character he found
interesting to play as an actor he would do it and RDM did write a
character he wanted to play. He was nervous about meeting the crew in
Canada considering all the hate mail they got because of him and was
surprised by the warm welcome they all gave him. Jamie Bamber explained to
Richard that he considered himself to be Lee Adama and that Richard was and
would always be Apollo." For the complete report, be sure to check out the

Colonial Fan Force in Your Hands Now
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
New announcement from Commander Taggart of ColonialFanForce.org: "The
future is in the hands of all fandom. I will say this, however: if any of
us sits back and says to himself 'I've already done enough, let someone
else write,' then we will fail to make an impact. If any of us says 'I just
don't have the time, someone else will write,' then we will fail to make an
impact. It really is up to you. The ads are going to make more people than
ever before aware of our effort, and, God willing, it will drive a lot of
traffic to the Colonial Fan Force site, where the plan will be outlined.
The opportunity we will have to demonstrate our numbers will be
unprecedented. September is nearly here. The culmination of all of our
efforts is upon us. One of two things is going to happen: we, as a fan
base, are going to shock Hollywood with a larger show of support for TOS
than they ever expected; or we are going to confirm in their minds that at
our best, we are but a mere handful. I want to thank everyone who has
played a part in making the Colonial Fan Force a success over the course of
the past year, either by contributing money, or by contributing talent,
ideas, and time. Here's hoping this fan base has enough chutzpah left to
make this 'last hurrah' one that will echo through the cinema ticket
windows of the world." Many thanks to Commander Taggart for the very well-
written announcement. This is only an excerpt, so for the complete
announcement be sure to visit the following link at the Battlestar

Nitpicker's Guide to Battlestar Galactica 2003 - Volume 1
October 01, 2004 by Webmaster
Lighthope posted his "Nitpicker's Guide to Battlestar Galactica 2003 -
Volume 1" article at Colonial Fleets: "The purpose of any Nitpicker's Guide
is not to review, but to engage in the delightful lunacy that fascinates
any [...] fanboy: to nitpick to death every inconsistency, leap of logic,
and outright impossibility to the point that even God himself would have
needed a microscope to find. We've seen these tomes in the guise of The
DisContinuity Guide to Doctor Who, as well as Nitpicker's Guide to Star
Trek and NPG to Star Wars. [...] Within this work you'll certainly not find
a complete list of 'What the Feldercarbs' (a word sadly missing from the
lexicon on the new series), and I'm sure there are some plausible
explanations for some of the items noted. But so what? It's all in fun. So
with that in mind, I now present to you the first in what will hopefully be
a long and happy series to compliment a long and happy series: Battlestar
Galactica and it's companion, The Nitpicker's Guide to Battlestar
Galactica, Volume 1 ? The Pilot." For the complete article and the
outrageous Nitpicker's Guide, be sure to check out the following link at

Support the Original Battlestar Galactica Continuation!
========================================
Okay, this just kills me. These fanboys are getting so out of touch with
reality that they are making the 1987 detractors of the then new Star Trek:
The Next Generation seem respectable (remember the ones who refused to watch
it and predicted that it wouldn't last a season since it wasn't a
continuation of the original series?). Let us take a look at the way things
were then as compared to now: In 1978, Battlestar Galactica was a unique,
high-budget show amid low-cost comedies and dramas. Not much thought had to
go into set design or costuming and certainly not sound effects or special
visual effects for Galactica's competition. Today is a different story.
Today's Galactica faces a lot of competition, and the new Galactica didn't
have the $40 million budget rumored to be the pricetag of the original
Galactica pilot. This is an apples and oranges story.
I remember alot more enthusiasm for the new Star Trek than reluctance. I
also don't remember a debate about whether or not it was a continuation of
the series, because it WAS a continuation, unlike BSG2003, which is a
destruction of not only the original TV series, but the spirit of the
storyline as well. They should have just used new names for the title and
the characters instead of ripping off the names for the sake of getting an
initial audience.

Looks to me like you're trying to say it takes money win an emmy rather than
talent, passion, hard work, dedication, ingenuity, sincerity, etc. Money
helps, but no amount of money is going to help BSG2003 at this point. Sex
is about the only thing that will save this series financially, and the
producers and directors have already shown they're willing to go that route.
> I remember alot more enthusiasm for the
> new Star Trek than reluctance.
Many hardcore fans were pissed that the show wouldn't be the continuing
adventures of Kirk, Spock and McCoy and threatened not to watch it. A
considerable number later became enthusiastic fans of the show as it
progressed.
> They should have just used new names for the
> title and the characters instead of ripping off

Let's say that they had done exactly that. Could we then get an
intellectually honest discussion about the series? Probably. Some of the
detractions of the remake were nothing less than intellectually dishonest
slams against the new show because fans were pissed that they weren't
getting their way. And it was nothing less than this pissy attitude that
kept most from watching the miniseries with an open mind.

Money does help as far as production values go. Look at how the artistic
values changed from Star Wars, a low budget film, to the much higher budgets
of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. And I hardly find the
new Galactica to be missing talent, passion, hard work, dedication,
ingenuity, sincerity, etc. You are only using those descriptors because you
are upset that you didn't get the Galactica continuation you wanted. A lot
of people have used those same descriptors of the original Galactica, by the
way.
Now for the comment about sex. How many sex scenes in the new Galactica
miniseries are we talking about anyway? Boomer and Tyrol had one romantic
scene, but they only got as far as removing Boomer's flight jacket and
kissing before the scene ended. Then we have Baltar and Number Six in two
sex scenes, both more suggestive than revealing. Billy and Dually kissed.
I would hardly call this loading up the miniseries with sex.
I also would hardly call the miniseries a failure. It was one of the
highest rated shows in the history of the Sci-Fi Channel. Unlike the
original Galactica, which lost a great many viewers during the course of the
three hour pilot, the miniseries remake didn't lose its audience share from
Part One to Part Two. Of course, Neilsen Ratings are just about useless
nowadays considering how many VCRs, DVD recorders, computer PVRs and TiVo
units are out there nowadays. Millions more probably recorded it to watch
later, but Neilsen doesn't take this into account.
Damn, Jeff. I'm actually impressed. You didn't call anyone a fag this
time. You didn't use any profanity. You ACTUALLY had a discussion with
someone. There may be hope for you yet.
Yes, I remember that. They didn't really object to the new series, they
just wanted to see the original actors back in action and claimed they
weren't interested in a new series without them. But once they saw the
series was continued in the true spirit of Star Trek, their concerns about
not using the original actors were gone.

I have been intellectually honest. There's no way I'm going to watch this
new series because the foundation of it is intellectually dishonest. I
watch TV to be entertained, not to be insulted or bored.
> Money does help as far as production values go. Look at how the artistic

Sure, it helped Star Wars because money was the only thing Star Wars was
missing. It already had everything else it needed to be successful, just
like the original BSG. BSG 2003 is missing honesty, originality,
creativity, imagination, chemistry, momentum, and I could go on and on. The
producers and directors will have to make up for this somehow, and I predict
they'll do it with sex and violence. Look here at the "top story" photo for
season one. http://battlestar.ugo.com/ Now, are they two nude humans
having sex, one nude human and one nude cylon having sex, or two nude
cyclons having sex? WOW, this shows incredible imagination! The suspense
is killing me! I guess I'll just have to tune in to find out! This series
is really off to a great start! (and it's all downhill from here)
> And I hardly find the
> new Galactica to be missing talent, passion, hard work, dedication,
> ingenuity, sincerity, etc.
I do. Throwing Olmos into the cast isn't going to help the show one bit
either. Not only does he have a bad script, but he's also not the right
actor for the part. It will only ruin his career. From what I understand,
he didn't do much in the pilot episode besides looking stern and acting as a
reporter for the war rather than being a commander of a ship and leader of
his people.
> You are only using those descriptors because you
> are upset that you didn't get the Galactica continuation you wanted.
Believe that if you want to.
> A lot of people have used those same descriptors of the original
Galactica, by the way.
I would have liked to hear that from them, but I never did.

I don't know the number and I don't need to. From what I understand the
show starts with an early scene of a nude woman having sexual intercourse
with Baltar, and this woman turns out to be a cylon. It takes very little
imagination for an idea (or as they say, a "re-imagining") like that, and it
takes even less to do it again and again, which I predict is going to
happen. They've destroyed the original storyline and set the stage for sex
early in the show. It doesn't take a genius to figure out where this is
going to lead.
> I also would hardly call the miniseries a failure. It was one of the
> highest rated shows in the history of the Sci-Fi Channel.
And it's all thanks to the new producers, directors, cast, crew, and new
storyline, right? HAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHA. Go ahead and imply that if you want
to. We both know it was due to the hijacking of the BSG name and reputation
of the original series. Any nitwit could have foreseen an initial high
turnout of viewers because of this. Hell, if I wasn't informed of the theft
of BSG and only saw the commercials, I would have been dumb enough to watch
it too. That's what the producers were relying on, and they got what they
were looking for. A quick easy buck at the expense of the show.

I did the same thing here as I did in my other posts. I posted a negative
opinion about the new show, only this time you and the others didn't
immediately respond with personal attacks. Be impressed with yourself.

are really talking about.

I would hardly call this website official. That intellectual honesty you
were claiming you had is not showing up in this claim.

Now you are being intellectually dishonest. The reviews for the original
Galactica were brutal. Even Asimov blasted the series in a printed review.

Then you haven't watched it as you claim to have done, and this will be my
last discussion about the miniseries with you until you actually sit down
and watch it because you are spouting off stuff about which you know
nothing.
And what is so fucking bad about a few characters having sex, anyway? You
sound like a Puritan. The original Galactica was supposed to have some
levels of suggestiveness about it, but ABC censors demanded certain changes.
I'm sure that if Larson had created Galactica today as a totally new and
unheard of concept, there would be sex on par with modern television
programming.

You act as though there are hundreds of millions of people clamoring for a
Galactica continuation and all of these people are pissed off that Galactica
was remade instead of continued. Most people have probably heard of the 70s
show, but couldn't give a rat's ass about whether or not it ever sees TV
again. You sound like modern day liberals trying to inflate numbers of
ardent supporters for their various causes.

No, this is the first time you've attempted to have an intelligent
conversation with someone in this group. I've gone through the entire
history of your posts through Google, and YOU are the one who started
flaming people.
> Dude, keep in mind that you are arguing with Jeff,
> who has no idea what you are really talking about.
You're right. And I had made a New Year's Resolution to stop tilting at
windmills, too. Damn, I've let myself down.
I never said that was the official website. It's merely one of several
websites promoting the new series. And I do believe that photo is genuine.
Intellectual honesty INTACT, as always. But if you have proof that photo is
fake and has nothing to do with the new series, please let me know.
> Now you are being intellectually dishonest. The reviews for the original
> Galactica were brutal. Even Asimov blasted the series in a printed
review.
So the fact that I never saw these "brutal" reviews make me dishonest?
Nope. Intellectual honesty INTACT once again! The only negative comments I
ever saw about the original series were some people babbling about it being
a ripoff of Star Wars. I'm still interested in reading these "brutal"
reviews if you can point me in the right direction.
>
> Then you haven't watched it as you claim to have done,
I've never watched the new series and I've never claimed to have watched it.
I believe I have vowed to never watch it, although that MAY change. This
thing with Richard Hatch being in the new series has me a little curious.
I'm sure he wouldn't have volunteered for this. Someone must have offered
him a PRETTY PENNY, and I'm willing to bet there's more to it than even
that, because I don't think he would have gone over just for the money. I
doubt this was an easy task for the producers to do and they must have put
forth more than just their average effort to reel him in. I'm wondering if
he's been offered the opportunity to have some light influence in the
production and/or direction of the show as well. The producers would never
reveal this of course, and Hatch would be under some sort of gag order as
well, so all I can do is wonder.
Hmmm, now WHY would the producers want so badly to bring in Richard Hatch,
who was probably their most outspoken opponent with strong opinions and
ideas on the future of the show? Richard Hatch is also disliked and
sneered by the fans of BSG2003 as well, as evidenced by comments I've seen
here and even by some journalists who gave favorable reviews of BSG2003.
Mmmmmmmmmmaybe the producers are trying to reel in the original series
fanbase? Now why would they want to do that? I thought our opinions and
viewership didn't matter. Even Olmos told fans of the original series not
to watch the new series. Perhaps this was planned all along? Steal the
show now and take control of it at all costs, and then do whatever salvaging
can be done later?
Maybe the producers feel they need to have someone on board who still has
the spirit of the original story and they want some of that influence in the
new series in some way?
Oh well, I just MIGHT have to watch some of this shit.
> And what is so fucking bad about a few characters having sex, anyway?
Nothing, as long as it's done with some class and adds some meaning to the
show. When you just throw it in there for eye candy, it detracts from the
show and caters to the lowest level of audience. The nude dressing room
scene with Starbuck and Athena was a good example of this. It added nothing
to the show so they took it out and no one missed it except those who wanted
to drool over Athena's body. There are other shows for that kind of
gratuitous sex (like Howard Stern), and it should be left to those other
shows. BSG didn't need it. The little escapades between Starbuck and
Cassiopea were done with a class, character, and style that added meaning to
the show.
> You act as though there are hundreds of millions of people clamoring for a

I believe that to be true. Maybe not pissed off, but disappointed, yes.

I have personally seen many young people who grew up on the reruns of BSG,
loved it, and wanted to see a continuation just as I did. And I have to
admit it surprised me very much because I didn't think that interest from
younger people existed until I saw it.
> No, this is the first time you've attempted to have an intelligent

Not true. I mostly return the personal attacks, not start them.

Yawn.

It did, as a matter of fact. I HATE classic Galactica with a passion, and
Olmos was the only reason I watched Galactica 03.

Er...OK. Did you catch Eddy Jim Almost [hah!] playing that stoned out

Truly one of his best "acting" moments.

Jeff, have you never seen the new BSG?
That can't be right.
How can you critique something you have never seen.
For the sake of the group, can you watch it or at least the first
1 hour then you will at least be panning the new BSG from
an informed position.
Why should I watch it when I already know the storyline is a crock of shit,
the actors suck, and it's injected with loveless sex scenes to attract
viewers like we have in this newsgroup? Add the fact that it's been taken
over by a bunch of greedy bastards who don't give a shit about the legacy
they've destroyed. What reason do I possibly have to watch it? NONE. This
series is aimed at a mass of people who don't know better, and there's
enough of them around to make the series survive for the short term at
least, and that's all that matters to the pimps who are churning this shit
out. Now they take the bizarre step of roping Richard Hatch into the mix to
at least confuse the original fanbase to the point of at least checking it
out. I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point. I still don't want
to watch it but if I do, I won't like it.
> Why should I watch it when I already know the
> storyline is a crock of shit, the actors suck, and

You make it sound like it has more sex scenes than a porno. There are
really not that many sex scenes. You are exaggerating. What the fuck are
you, some kind of prude? Do you only watch the Disney Channel or ABC Family
Channel? Do you fast forward through the launch tube scene with Starbuck
and Cassiopeia in the original pilot because they are more than likely about
to have sex? People have sex, and there was nothing gratuitous about the few
sexual scenes shown in the new miniseries. Even Number Six and the
"infamous" hand job attempt. Once again, let me go through all the romantic
scenes in the new Galactica:
1. Baltar and Number Six have sex after Baltar concludes an interview with
a news reporter. This is the most explicit scene in the whole miniseries,
but no nudity is shown.
2. Tyrol and Boomer have a tryst after Boomer returns from a mission. They
start to kiss and the scene ends.
3. Baltar is asleep in his bed with a dark haired woman with whom he has
probably had a sexual encouter. Number Six wakes them up, sends the woman
packing, and then procedes to tell Baltar that she is really a Cylon, and
that the Cylons are about to attack. It is only implied that Baltar had sex
with the dark haired woman. None of this encouter is shown.
4. Dualla kisses Billy when she sees that he is alive after having believed
that he had been killed.
5. Tyrol and Boomer kiss when Tyrol is reunited with Boomer after believing
she had been killed.
6. Number Six playfully tries to give Baltar a hand job on the Galactica
bridge, but is interrupted by Aaron Doral. All that is show is Number Six
unzipping Baltar's pants.
Once again, not exactly brimming with sex, and I don't think any of the
scenes are gratuituous.
As for the actors in this miniseries, I wouldn't exactly slam them. Both
Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell have, in the past, been nominated for
both Oscars and Emmys and most of their works have met with high praise.
There really wasn't any flat acting among any of the cast members. As for
the original cast, many couldn't act to save their own asses.
As for the storyline, as I've said before, it wasn't the way I personally
would have done a remake, and there are things about this new Galactica that
I would change if I could, but overall, I think this new Galactica is a
competent remake of a classic.
> Add the fact that it's been taken over by a bunch
> of greedy bastards who don't give a shit about the
> legacy they've destroyed.
What legacy? Galactica lasted only one season, was slammed in most reviews,
and in the eyes of many, it was a flop. Most people also consider it a
rip-off of Star Wars.
It's not like it has tens of millions of diehard fans out there just
clamoring for its continuation. I don't see Richard Hatch's books on any of
the best seller lists. The Galactica DVDs haven't exactly broken any sales
records. It's not like the reruns on the Sci-Fi channel have set any
ratings records.
Galactica has an overinflated legacy that exists only in the mind of its
relatively small number of hardcore fans, of which I was one.
As for who is running it now, how do you know that greed is all that
consumes them? Perhaps Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto were just as consumed
when they were working on the continuation before September 11th put
everything in limbo and by the time they got in gear again, it was time for
them to start working on the second X Men movie. Can you say that Larson
was any less greedy, cashing in on the success of Star Wars by making
Galactica? Larson is one of the biggest rip-off artists in Hollywood
history. Alias Smith and Jones is nothing more than a cash-in on Butch
Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. McCloud is nothing more than a cash-in on
Coogan's Bluff. BJ and the Bear was a cash-in on both Smokey and the Bandit
and the then upcoming Clint Eastwood movie Every Which Way But Loose. Get
Christie Love was a cash-in on the "blaxploitation" films of the early
1970s.

Gee, I wonder how many people in 1978 thought the same thing about the
Galactica series?
> Now they take the bizarre step of roping Richard

I think Hatch just wants an acting job. His career never did take off, and
I'd bet that the only reason he tried to get the original Galactica
continued was to get himself a steady acting job, something he hasn't had
since Galactica left the air in 1979.
> I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point.

That's the spirit! Way to keep the old mind open! Why don't you just haunt
one of the Galactica mailing lists or Yahoo! groups, watch and re-watch your
DVDs of the old Galactica, and get the fuck out of here? You are a minority
here, and when the series starts in Great Britain this month, you'll be even
more outnumbered. This newsgroup never really saw much action anyway as a
result of the old series. And most of the conversation now is about the new
miniseries and upcoming series. You may as well pack you bags and go to a
more like-minded forum. I genuinely think you'd be much happier.
"How would E[ddy]J[ames]O[lmost] like it if they re-made Miami Vice?"

I'm not passionate about any incarnation of Galactica, other than that I
find they can be diverting entertainment. The above is just curious. Not
meant as a slam at you at all.
> How would EJO like it if they re-made Miami Vice?
I saw on Fox News the other day where they are doing exactly that. Michael
Mann is doing a remake.
> Would you remake The Honeymooners or MASH ?
Why not? Especially the movie MASH. That movie was a slap in the face to
Korean War veterans. I could have stomached the movie if it had been set in
Vietnam.

There weren't enough fans to give Battlestar Galactica enough ratings to
continue the original story. But there were enough to give ABC reason to
run a lower cost continuation named Galactica 1980, which was originally
intended to feature the original cast, but Hatch backed out and Benedict had
other commitments.

Any word on actual sales? I've read a few of them, and haven't been
impressed yet. Hatch has no concept of the very show in which he starred.

I could back that if Hatch wouldn't be helming the continuation. This new
Galactica would only be a live-action version of his Armageddon universe,
and I can't support that for a multitude of reasons. I've even heard that
Dirk Benedict and Herb Jefferson, Jr. don't like this setting either.

I would hardly call Battlestar Galactica good quality stuff. And they did
spend millions on the show. The pilot was rumored to cost $40 million.
Each episode ended up costing almost a million. It was too much money for a
network to spend back then for a show that couldn't get back to the original
ratings, and stayed below 20th place for most of the show's run.
> It's sad, but that's why there's nothing good on TV
You won't find much good quality stuff on broadcast. I find my best shows
on FX with The Shield and HBO with The Sopranos and Deadwood.

And what will you do if the show is a success?

It's my impression that both Sky One and Sci-Fi Channel are both impressed
enough already by what they've seen that a second season is almost
guaranteed at this point.
Too late. They're casting a Miami Vice movie right now.
Low ratings and the fact that it was *bad*. I loved B5 - it's one of my
all-time favorite sci-fi TV series - but Crusade was not up to the same
level of quality.

Babylon 5 is also one of my all-time favorite shows. I didn't catch much of
Crusade. What I did see didn't catch my interest the way B5 did. I have
heard rumors of a continuation of Babylon 5. Have you heard anything?
i didnt think theres any point in continuing B5 - its had its run, the story
had its arc, and pretty much completed it.
it was a great show, and its still one of my favourite tv shows [well,
uptill season 4-5..]
Crusade - i tried to stick with it, but felt it lacked everything from
decent sciprt, dodgy casting and really dodgy vfx [the old hands had long
gone by the time this series was being made and it shows..]
i was very disappointed by Crusade. Ths casting of the leads and the
immediate supports was okay, its just that they didnt have much to work
with..
i must admit, i am enjoying the new series of BSG so far... [and i was a fan
of the original series..]
To correct a misperception (agrees with EF).... Crusade actaully had
very high ratings. JMS quit because he refused to bow down to the
producers demands for simpler plotlines, more fist fights and sex
scenes.
Crusade was cancelled before the first episode even went to air
