Did it kill the economy last time it was raised? If you say yes, please
provide proof from a non-hysterical web site.

We weren't in a deep recession with high job losses the last time.

This will prompt more layoffs.

I uneqivocally state that there are now 500,000 fewer jobs than if it
had not been raised. Prove me wrong.

The last time the min. wage was raised, the economy was not sinking. In a
down economy, you do not want to force wage increases or impose new taxes.
Since new taxes are a certainty, wage increases will help pay them if people
still collect wages.

Obama has no clue. Poor bastard. He's way over his head.

Limiting proof to non-hysterical web sites really makes it hard for the
neo-cons!

Better than the crap we get from hysterical Liberal L00NEYS where I live.

They don't want Biomass.
They don't want Windfarms.

But, once a month, they're on the town common with signs that say, "End
our dependence on Foreign Oil!!"

The only conclusion I can draw is, they don't know what the fu@k they want.
Seems about right.

"Oh, this kind of energy could heal the world."
Yup, keep telling us how sane you l00ns are...

I would suggest one do a search of the automated fast food industry if one
wants to see how many jobs are lost whenever the minimum wage is raised.

"Joe$#itForBrains," of course it does not "kill the economy," raising taxes
does that. but you might try doing a search of the US D.O.C. or the US
D.O.L. for the proof you seek about the loss of unskilled jobs every time
the minimum wage is raised.

I remember years ago when I was out the door and on my own. To many
here either never lived paycheck to paycheck or don't remember how hard
it is to get a start and try to make a living. Those are real people
working for minimum wages and for many of them their only choice is to
work two jobs to increase their income. If it hurts to help someone
less fortunate a person probably ought to do some thinking about it.

But Fatso, if a guy making minimum wage builds 5 widgets in an hour, and his
wage goes up $0.25 and he still makes 5 widgets, then the raise is BY
DEFINITION inflation.

Whenever more money is paid for the same thing, then that is the very
definition of inflation. If you pay more money but get more, that's good,
and if you pay less and get more then that's even better. Think of TVs and
computers. The prices of these items has fallen at a time when the features
goes up. This is because of productivity gains. If workers in these
industries go from building 5 per hour to building 10, then the wages can
increase because the productivity increases. If they go to building 15, then
the prices can come down and the wages can go up, again because of
productivity gains.

But the guy flipping burgers can only flip as many as the burger stand can
sell, and if the wages are forced upward, then the prices must also be
pushed up, and you have to pay more for your burger even if you get a
smaller burger in the process. If you have to pay more, you buy less and the
burger joint sells less but the cost of business remains the same so the
burger joint has to raise prices even more to cover the production costs
(also known as the cost of goods). Because you are now paying more for the
same thing, then that is deemed to be inflation.

Inflation is bad. Brace yourself, Obama is bringing lots of inflation. They
will not be able to raise the minimum wage fast enough or far enough to
cover the damage that's being done. A min. wage worker will dream fondly of
the days when he only needed two jobs.

Do you like getting raises based on increased cost of living?

Sure, but when I was getting a wage, I was making $50 per hour. I was given
targets in the previous year that I met or exceeded in order to get the
raise in the current year. I honestly say that I do not recall ever getting
a cost of living raise. I got a very small raise during economic hard
times -- the early '90s -- even though I met the goals of the previous year.
But, I do not believe in something for nothing, which is what an increase to
the minimum wage amounts to.

My kids get min wage, and they get a raise by getting promoted, which they
get by doing the job better than expected, which they do by going to school
and improving their skill sets.

Minimum wage is an ENTRY LEVEL job. It is not a LIVING WAGE. It was never
intended to be a living wage, and anybody that earns min. wage after the age
of about 20 probably does not deserve the job they are doing.

I remember when I finally made over 10K in one year! I didn't think
I was ever going to break that barrier. By then I was so used to living
poor I just paid off the house, saved and invested. Once poor always
poor. Interesting to talk to kids (meaning the younger work force) they
don't even think about retirement any more, most say they don't ever
expect to be able to retire.
I hope everyone enjoyed the day, if not there is still some of it
left to enjoy.

Why would I do that? I paid $129 for the night, the room should be clean
when I get there. If they raise the min wage, then the room will cost me
$139, which is inflationary because I don't get any more for the extra
money.

If the price of everything keeps going up, as shown by actual data about the
price of everything (except crap made overseas), then the maid won't be able
to afford working at the hotel. Then, there will be two options:

1) Clean your own hotel room

2) Hire people willing to work for less than the legal wage, which you will
cry about like the little bitch you are

Choose one.

Work for less than the legal wage? How about working for the current legal
wage, unchanged? What's wrong with that? Minimum Wage is for an entry level
job where there is absolutely no training or skills needed.

If you have no training or skills, then too bad so sad, I wouldn't want to
be you.

If the hotel needs 50 people to keep it clean, and can only get 40 to do it
at the wages they offer, then they have to raise the offer to attract more
workers. Somehow, I do not see a shortage of hotel workers. There is an
abundance of workers -- that means an oversupply -- and wage pressures are
precisely what the economy does not need today. If there are not enough
workers, then the hotel industry will raise wages by itself. ANY minimum
wage employer will raise wages to attract workers if he can't get workers at
the wage he is offering.
