I'm having a problem with the anti-theft radio in my 1995 4Runner. I
pulled the fuse for the radio, and now the little red key on the radio
is flashing, and the radio will not work. There is no "help" in the
display, contrary to the contents of the owner's manual. I tried the
holding down of #1 and #6 while holding the power knob, and nothing
happened. Any help appreciated.

You must know the 3 digit code, hopefully its one you put in, not
something that came with it from a previous owner! Turn on the key, look
for "SEC" only to appear, then press "tune up", hold it down, then hit
#1 preset, you'll get --- in the display, now you have 10 seconds to
enter each digit, first digit is done with preset #1, 2nd with #2, and
3rd with #3, once you have the code entered, hit "scan" and wait, if its
wrong, it will say "err 1" meaning error 1, you have ten tries, then it
commits suicide and will display help. If this happens, take the entire
vehicle to the dealer, they can get a special 6 digit unlock code
(unique to each radio) from the maker of the unit, as long as its the
original radio to the vehicle (never stolen and re-installed etc) If you
get it right, it will just turn on the radio (reactivate), code will
remain in place. Pushing 1 and 6 is only used for installing a code,
changing it, or erasing it, if you want to do either of those, email me
and I'll walk you through it... :-)
