Actual story: She's resigning. Wants to "work for positive change outside of
government". Cites criticism of her family as one issue.

It defies logic. Her saying she will step aside isn's strange, the _timing_
of the announcement of stepping aside is strange. Why announce anything at
3:00pm Eastern on a holiday weekend, especially anything as unexpected as
this?
There's something going on here that she's not saying.
It's as if Todd has had an affair, and she's leveraging the weekend to hope
that Elvis re-enters the room, so that on Monday morning there will be
something else to talk about. Or, SHE had an affair, and is leveraging the
weekend. Either way, the timing is very odd given the gravity of the
announcement.
She should have waited until the trumpets would wail to announce her plan to
run for Prez, or any other office. You know, "Now hear this, now hear this,
Palin is running for President. Film at Eleven." But instead, shes gonna
get, "What the Hell is going on? We might know by eleven, so tune in.
Maybe."
This is very odd.

Yep. Could've done it 4 years ago, but wasn't quite ready. Financially, or

I get all of that, and I agree that it sucks. Letterman was waaaay off base,
and the media attacks are at the root of the suits she had to defend herself
from relative to the jacket logo, the trip where a kid tagged along, and so
on and so forth.

How old are you? At 50, retirement was still a sort of vague idea in my
brain, & I was nowhere near ready, for ex. If you're 55 - 60-ish, then all
the power to you!
I had the most seniority in my bldg. for the last few years, & of the 8
retirees this year, in the district. Most of us (this year's retirees)
stayed beyond age 55, but the others were either a little younger then I am
&/or had taken maternity leave(s) many years ago. (One of this year's elem.
retirees had taught the HS teacher who's the present local Union Pres.)
There are now a couple of teachers who'd *like* to retire, but they taught
in parochial schools for the first several years before entering the public
system, so their time in the NYSTRS is lacking & their pensions would carry
a penalty is they were to leave now/any time soon.
Although there are aspects of teaching I really still enjoyed, I was tired
of writing lesson plans, of dealing with discipline - which IMO/E *really*
gets in the way of teaching, of carting a couple of hours' worth of work
home each evening, of State crap - which then filters down to the local
level (ex: opting for even *more* testing - also written by McGraw-Hill, &
the tests are rather badly constructed) being in your face on a constant
basis, etc.

At this point, I am rather heartily sick of McGraw-Hill's testing programs,
& not so sure I want to spend my newly-found freedom researching them! But
the above allegations wouldn't particularly surprise me, considering how the
yearly State assessments (I can't speak for how they vet their Acuity tests)
are field tested (BTDT), & teacher feedback is supposedly taken into acct.
