I live in Southern California, and want to spend the day or longer and get
a paint job in Tijuana.

I am looking for the equivalent of a $300 paint job here,
but am looking to spend much less there!

and no Earl Scheib 'inez jokes!

I would forget about TJ. Good place to visit; that's it.
I have had many good, inexpensive paint jobs from One-Day, Maaco, and Earl's.
To me they are the same. They are not going to give your 25 year old car a
factory finish for your 3 bills. Car paint costs about $60 a gallon minimum
depending on color. These places use the least materials possible. That's why
they are the cheapest.
Here's my suggestion. Know what you have, and work with them. Make it worth
their while ($$tip to the painter if you are happy). Hang around the shop some
and look at their jobs. Ask the amigos(you speak spanish, right?) who the
painter is. Tell him that when your car comes through you will have a case of
cervesas (or two) to show your appreciation. Watch what happens! ----Richard

Earl gives a five year warranty with no dated receipts, requires payment
in cash and then leaves town. My parents got burned twice.

Maaco gives no warranty because I prepped the car. It gave them a license
not to use the clear coat as required by the paint system and not to use
the expensive flexibale surface additive when painting the bumbers and
other rubber materal. They also had to pain the car twice because
they missed part of the wheelwells and under they car etc. I have
pictures. They also painted my trunk carpet and seatbelt - no charge.
Their corporate office would not help me. Go there on a Friday and sit
when everyone picks up their cars before you take yours in and listen.

Beware of any paint job that's less than $300. I was burned by
"Electro-bake", also known as "Peach". They stay in an area for 3-4 months,
do all the advertisement they can, get all the suckers they can, and then
leave town. They come back under a different name about 6 months later,
just making rounds. My paint job looked great for 3-4 months, then started
coming off everytime it was washed. Ended up looking horrible in 9 months
to a year.

You might be able to bribe the Amigos into some fairly good workmanship, but
the paint they use is crap. Maybe bring your own paint and a couple cases
of their favorite beer?

Ahhhh, the Paint is Crap!, if thats the case, then it will be impossible to
get
a decent paint job , with 'Decent' Paint.
However, I am going to go to Maaco or 1-Day Paint, shouldnt be too bad for
their
3yr. gurantee Paint Job,.....I'll be keeping the car another 6mos. to a 1yr.
anyhow, then want to sell it!
