I have a 1986 2wd base model truck with a lot of upgrades and rebuilt
parts, but nobody in or around Chicago wants any of them. It runs
fine, but the bottom end is making the telltale noises of an engine on
it's last leg, and I stupidly primered it on a whim, so it looks
crappy. Ball joints are dead too (clunk clunk clunk). Any ideas?
small parts going to Ebay, but body parts, etc.???? How do I get
Midwesterners to buy rust free 1986 toyota body parts? Do you know
anybody in or around Chicago who needs good 1986 Toyota body (or any
kind of) parts. Cylinder head has 15000 miles on a complete rebuild
with new exhaust valves. Entire brake system is new. It came from
Cali about three years ago.....

Dude,
You drove it into the ground, and now want to sell it to somebody?

Lower the price, or call the Jewish Defense League, or other charity of your
choice, and take the receipt they give you and write the value off of your
taxes.

Wow! Your an asshole! Actually didn't drive it into the ground, just
want to drive something else, all it needs is a bottom end rebuild and
ball joints. Other than that I took really good care of it. I bought
it for 2500 and put about 1000 bucks into it over a 4 year period. I
am just surprised that nobody wants unrusted parts off of it. Tried
listing it on Craigslist and people responded, but then never emailed
back.

To the nice person who asked if it's a long or a short bed, it's a
short bed.

To Jeff Strickland, try being a little nicer and maybe not stupid as
well (Jewis Defense League????). This is excactly the kind of BS we
don't need around here, so go home, Schmuck.

Do you have pictures of your truck? Are its parts interchangeable with
1988 versions of the same?

Yeah, I have a bunch of pictures, and all the parts are interchangable
with a 1988, assuming it is 2wd. I will put the pictures onto my
Photobucket account tonight when I get home from work, so you can see
them. I tried to get them off my Craigslist listing, but it is
expired.

The bed is the 'indented' version (it has an indent around the top
edge). The tranny does not grind going into gear at all, or pop out of
gear and has had the fluid changed every 30 thousand miles (at least
since I've owned it). The body parts are rust free but do have some
dents, but no big ones. It does not have power steering or AC. Most
of the mechanical parts are in good working order. If you need a part
let me know and I will check it out to make sure it is up to spec. The
seat is in near new shape, and is fuzzy dark grey. The instrument
cluster is the SR5 one with oil pressure, tach, and voltmeter. It
reads 260,000, but everything works.

Newer parts are:
front brake calipers
rotors (never been turned)
brake master cylinder
clutch master cylinder + secondary cylinder

recently rebuilt parts:
Cylinder head (15000 miles ago - pressure tested - new exhaust valves -
works with carb. or fuel injection)
Carberator 15000 miles ago, although it has a small 'dead spot' in
between acelleration and cruising, which may or may not be fixable by
adjusting the high and low idle so they overlap.
Rear wheel cylinders

other parts:
radiator (power steering ready - no leaks, always kept coolant clean)
brake booster
oil pump
water pump
doors (no dents or rust)
windows (non-vent having style)
manifolds both in good shape

disregard the post in which I got upset at jeff strickland, I had just
woken up, and maybe took it the wrong way. After reading it again I am
not sure he was being as much of a creep as I originally thought he
was. Se la vie.

I'm really a happy guy!!

I'm sorry I suggested the JDL, but they have a program that everybody has
heard of, and we all have different programs in our local community that do
the same thing -- take cars and trucks as donations and give a tax receipt.
I could have suggested the local organization here that has this program,
but the odds are good that you haven't got the same program in your area,
and this would render an otherwise good suggestion incomprehensable. I'm not
selling the JDL here, I only use it as a basis for understanding how one
might donate a car or truck and get a tax deduction.

And, I WAS being nice. You have a 20-year old truck that is worn out. Face
the fact without taking offense. One more thing, it's "YOU'RE an asshole ...
," I may be, but my post is not one of the ways to tell.

Apology accepted. I thought you went a bit overboard and misunderstood the
point ...

Maybe I shouldn't read these things until after I have had some coffee
in the morning, eh? I kept looking for a "delete posting" button, but
there ain't one!!

I guess it's just the difference between somewhere where they use road
salt and San Diego where the truck came from. Nobody has 20 year old
cars here, but there I could sell parts without any hesitation.
Totally understandable, but hard for me to accept. When I bought the
Volvo 240 that will replace the truck, I never thought I would be stuck
with the truck or having to part it out.... maybe I'll just make a
road warrior car out of it and scare my neighboors, I just bought an
arc welder....... hhmmmmmmm....

I don't know what the deal is, the links are supposed to be to the full
size pictures! Oh, wait, they all have a th_ in front of the photo
name..... how annoying! I guess click on it and then take the th_ out
of the name, and it should take you to the large photo.... stupid
photobucket.

Lolo,

That's one clean truck. Check out my 1988 (w/ 73K miles) in the link
below. I've actually seen Shriners drive larger vehicles in parades!
Your cap might look swell on my hotwheel!

Besides my '05 Tundra, I have a 1986 2wd Chevy S-10 that I drive all the
time (to save gas and the miles on the Tundra).
I paid $300 for it 3 years ago last April. I haven't done a thing to it but
brakes and a tune-up when I bought it, plus an occasional oil change.
It's rusty and ugly (but never been wrecked!), I'm the second owner and the
tires are still good!
People at work keep trying to get me to sell it.
I've hauled a bed load of railroad ties, several bed loads of gravel and
once I hauled 1,960 lbs of topsoil!!! The front wheels kept popping up off
the ground on my way home!
I never much cared for GMs but this little S-10 is TOUGH!!!

Yeah, maybe I'll just keep it, it runs well enough, just don't want to
pay insurance. Maybe I should get a higher paying job. Broke ass bum.
I like that it drives like a go-cart. I just need to duct tape the
front bumper back onto it! weeeeeee.

BTW, the shell fits perfectly on a barbie car! Hot wheels!! Smart
alec.....
