The rear lights on my 48 Commander don't work. Is there a fuse somewhere that
might be blown?

No fuses in the 48, what you need to do is trace the wire back to the light
switch. You probably have a broken wire running to the back. If you have a
turn signal, the problem becomes much harder to trace. There is a bundle of
wires that head out of the steering column toward the rear (gas sending
unit, left tail light right tail light.). start there and check for
continuity. Hope that helps.

Disconnect the battery, unscrew the nurdle that holds the switch, push switch
out the rear, and let it hang. Now connect the battry, with a piece of heavy
wire, jump the circuit breaker and see if the lights wirk. The breaker might be
corroaded or shot. All the Post War bodied cars had a breaker attached to the
switch.
