OK gang, as Paul and Glen suggested I set up a petition asking the SDC
to include Bugsport in Turning Wheels, and I basically used Paul's
verbiage (thanks!).

If you want to sign it here it is:

http://www.petitiononline.com/60V39427/petition.html

If you feel the membership would enjoy Bugsport please sign the
petition, it may not help but it can't hurt!

Oh, and anyone know what the ID number I used for the petition is from?

Thanks,

Jeff DeWitt

Thanks for setting things up, Jeff. I just got home from work and have
added my name. Now all of us who want Bugsport to be added to TW have to do
the publicity campaign. So all y'all send email out to your stude friends,
tell them about Bugsport, and ask them to sign up.

Just curious....would this be from the beginning of the comic strip, or
just certian ones that contain the Studebaker images? the reason I
ask, is because from the beginning, you have up to number 19 before you
see the first Studebaker reference (a bullet nose saucer).

Don't take this the wrong way...I think some of the drawings are pretty
neat (who knew a hawk could look so good as a spaceship), but then I am
"out there" a little bit myself. Just wondering if all of the SDC
members would "get it" if it was started from the beginning.

Maybe I missed something too as far as how this would be put into TW,
so if I did, please enlighten me.

Good questions, and certainly not for me to answer, I think that would
have to be worked between with Ted Bastien and Turning Wheels.

As the strip comes out once a week (or so) they would pretty much have
to put four weeks worth in each issue just to stay caught up, maybe the
first month start from 16 (the kids are swimming and the tide goes out
exposing a saucer) and continue through 19. Plus of course they would
have to list the website so those who were interested could check out
the whole series.

This all seems nice, and I would enjoy reading Bugport in my TW, but does
Ted want it published in our rag? What would it cost The SDC for the
copyright to do so? I think we need to slow down, and let it run trough
proper channels. My 2 cents

I know TW is short on space, i.e., my de-rusting article has been on
hold for a few months. I have no opinion on the comic strip as long as
it does not take up room better used for more useful stuff.

I think that the practical thing would be for someone to write an
artical about the strip and let those who want to go there do so.
Members who don't go on line will just have to ask a friend to print it
out.

Ok...the FUBARS have an M series bus, does that mean they follow the
"advanced intelligence" thought process too?

Also as far as the advanced alien intelligence prefering
Studebakers...does that mean all Studebaker NG's "suffer" from
advanced alien intelligence? <G>

The format of TW is aging and it's time to redo it. A standard
signature format with thinner stock on the inside would permit quite a
bit of expansion on the same footprint...

I wrote the artist and right now unless I did not understand
his desires, he is looking for that to become
a television show. If you look at the technique used in his
art it is very labor intensive and I do not think
certain frames or cells will / would reproduce well in TW.

Has anyone asked the artist if he wanted to be in TW, or
wants to particiapte, and the biggy, how much does he charge
to do a strip/drawing? I don't think he would be donating
unless thats what folks are looking for.

Just because its a Studebaker it doesn't mean that we should
be putting pressure on him or TW.

Good points Bill.

My position isn't really to put pressure on anyone, it's a great strip
with a lot of really creative Studebaker content. If Turning Wheels and
Ted Bastien could work something out Bugsport would get some good
exposure and the membership would get to see a neat cartoon that most of
them would never have otherwise seen.

I can't really imagine how much work it is to create work like that, but
I can appreciate that it's very well done and must take a tremendous
amount of work and talent.

Wtite it up and submit to editor.

Don't fail to take into account fees for authors of additional articles
and added printing costs, if they are under consideration.

undisclosed source. With out giving away too much information, I can say
that I anticipate receiving the May issue of Turning Wheels.

I just read the first post, "without giving out too much information"...
hell, there was no sign of ANY information remotely hinted at as far as I
could read. Could be a nude centerfold, could all color glossy pages, could
be changed over to a size 36 font for the old folks, etc...

What? Only 18 suppourting signatures for the petition to have Bugsport
included in TW? That's it? No one else thinks that this cartoon with lots
of stude content (stude raido, bullet noses, M-series bus, a golden (color)
hawk, and inuendo about being made in Canada) would be a good addition to
TW?

NO, I SUPPORT IT 300%, but what good is it, if the artist,
or the SDC is not open to it? I think
anything that can promote both Studebaker, or its image, and
also promote the SDC is a plus. But why
should we put undue pressure on this fellow, who I believe
said he wanted a TV show out of this? Why
put the SDC under pressure to form a series of committees to
determine if a committee thinks its a viable
idea.

Right now through the Internet we have the good fortune of
reading the new chapter of Bu sport every
Friday. with just the input of a few key strokes and in COLOR.

Based on what I pay for art this could wind up costing the
SDC some heavy money, unless the artist feels
that the exposure to the 13,000 copies ii will draw him the
needed press publicity. For example on a typical shirt
design, and depending on artist, I can pay upwards to $600
$750 for the use of the art on shirts etc, we are not
talking other items that might come to mind. On top of that
I pay 3% to 4% of wholesale sales. and 6 to 8% of retail
sales to the artist.

Wholesale sales means that if SI wanted to carry the shirts
and he ordered $800 worth, I would also pay the
artist another $32 on top of what I paid him.......thats
wholesale. If I sell $500 worth of shirts at York or Reedsville
I pay $40

So you can add my name, and add those of Ellen & Robin if
it will help

I should have closed the above by asking if this type of financial
reward is what the artist wants or does e get more for commercial work.

Is it financially a good deal for the SDC? is it a good deal for the
artist?

Being as I'm at the rig, and have a VERY limited download speed, it'll
have to wait until I'm at home.

Why not simply write a letter to TW with the Web address for the
cartoon, and bring it to the attention of all SDCers that way. Then
those who wish can view the website. Perhaps TW could publish a sample
cartoon(provided the author agrees).
