Having considered what I think to be a couple of reasonable offers, I have
decided to stick to my line, "It's not for sale." I don't have another
project of that magnitude left in me, don't want anything less than what I
have now, can't imagine myself without something like it, so think I'll just
keep her.
The offers were such that I may be making a mistake, but I can always change
my mind later. If I sell the car, I'll be in a bigger quandary than I have
been all week, trying to decide what to do. I appreciate the input from
those that advised me along the way. BTW, the best offer came from a NG'er,
who shall remain unnamed at this time. He and his spouse, who seemed to
want it most, have first dibs in the event of my demise, or change of heart.

It was my intention not to allow that to happen. But, when the questions
changed from, "Would you sell it?," or, I'll buy it." to, "I'll give
$__,___ for it, I felt I needed to ponder. Glad it's over, I feel better
than I have in a week!

Funny thing 'bout that. First, for those that don't know, I must mention
that she has no emotional attachment to the car, AT ALL. She doesn't want
to see anything bad happen to it, mind you, but whether it stays or goes
means nothing to her. I seldom talk to her regarding my car deals, 'cause
she just doesn't care. They come, they go, no big deal (since she figured
out they seldom actually cost me anything to own in the end.)
But, I did talk to her about this "deal." And, I did tell her the dollar
amounts. What WAS I thinking? <G> Her input was that I would regret it
the minute I did it, and that I would be out before daybreak looking for
another project, kicking myself in the ass all the while. She doesn't give
a darn about the old cars, but methinks she is on to ol' Dave. I hate it
when she's right, but it does happen.
She suggested a higher figure, in fact. I said, "That'll never happen."
She said, "Someone out there will pay that much for it, if they know what it
takes. I saw what you went through, and anyone with any sense would pay
more to have the car and not have to do the work." She could be right, I
have seen cars sell for the figure she mentioned, I just never considered
that I might build one.
She's a pretty good egg, in spite of her lack of appreciation of the better
things in life. <G> I rather expected her to say, "Take the money, you
fool, you fool!"

according to the news server. I told the guy that built the 'puter about
this quirk, but he says it can't happen. Who am I to argue? Is there
another time setting somewhere?

Now, that's stranger than fiction, 'cause it's real. I show that post

Probably whoever you're posting through has a flaky clock on their
server. The posts are generally time stamped by the server not your
computer (but YMMV) - my puter has a clock that runs silly fast (but it
usually stabilizes at about an hour fast?????) but my posts show up with
the correct time.

only "advice" I'd offer is that you DRIVE it now! Screw the stone chips and
steal the show at every intersection in Perkins and Stillwater. If all I
had to show for my efforts was a trophy and a fat wallet, I'd never build
another Stude again.

'em just another piece of "meat." I realize that most have attachments
to their vehicles but that is also the Achilles heel which is the cause
of potential income/cash flow restrictions. It is also the category in
which most of us fit into.
JP's success on the other hand is the opposite. There is nothing wrong
with taking the pencil to paper to determine any particular outcome.
The biz of processing meat can also be rewarding in itself not only
monetarily, but quite often, a neglected vehicle where the scrapper is
often the only seemingly solution is often saved to cruise the highways again.
Absolute sentimentality is the enemy of any business but practical
sentimentality can be an ally. We all just have to find our niche....

What we all have to be careful about is not to put our own particular bent
on another persons project/dream/goal.
The path someone chooses may not be the most direct, or the easiest, but it
is the journey that counts.
I know some guys that drove Champs all over these United States this summer
and had a blast (squeaky brakes and all <g>).
I know some guys that towed, and they had a blast too.
I know some guys just starting their projects, and some just finishing...
Putting a pencil to it is usually only important if the goal is selling it
to fund the next one.
It is a prudent thing to do, but I'll bet only a small percentage of
hobbyists in our gang would really want to know how much they have actually
spent on their Studebakers.
It's the doing, and the going, and the playing that are what's important.
Ol' Dave is at that awkward stage....
He's almost done with his car...

Good thing he has a built in attachment on his car that he hits his head on
regularly to knock some sense back in to it <g>...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr...... Now that I'm back home, I don't drive it enough.
It's like windshield wipers that are going bad, you swear that you're
gonna get new one's but they only aggravate you when it rains...
At least people get clear warning when I'm approaching...

took a pencil to paper on each one out the door. If they did it right, they made
money, and made more and better Studebakers. If the customer became attached to a
particular car, Studebaker would try a entice him away with a 'better' one.
We as a group are like artists, some of us would never part with a painting
once it's done. Some enjoy the 'painting' process and want to move to a new canvas
before the paint dries. Some paint without a care about the market value of their
work, some are commercial artists. I'm on the commercial artists end of the
spectrum, sort of like Raymond Loewy . OK, I'm more like the guy that paints the
"Dogs Playing Poker" than Raymond Loewy. <G>

I am going to (try to) let go of this burden of retentiveness. It hangs
around my neck like a steel ball. I'm going to try to enjoy her for what
she is, and worry about the "flaws" less. Hey, we've done our thing.
Cover, calendar, International meet. We should both relax, methinks. The
show scene is growing old, it's just too much like work.
Maybe, just maybe, one of the winters I'll be in the mood to fix this 'n
that, but I'm not in the mood now!
