I'm building (what I think is) the world's first 56 Safari Gasser
tribute, with a blown 389, Muncie 4-speed and straight axle. It's a
period car and trying to warp time using mostly period parts. The
last thing needed is a good rear end.
You'll see why I don't want a 9-incher. No, no, no. This baby is all
Pontiac, so I need the rear end out of a 57, which (as you all know)
bolts right on up in the 56.
I'll look at all options, but would prefer one you know the history of
(i.e. out of a running car). If it needs rebuilding (bearings, etc.)
then that's fine. Drum to drum or just the banjo; don't need the
springs but if you don't want to separate I'll look at it.
Ratio doesn't matter either 'cause I got to change that any rate.
Would be interested in ring & pinions (3.70 or lower) and/or posi unit
too.
I'm in Australia, so can arrange shipping from there to here, but I'd
need someone prepared to pallet and it up nice and tight and (if
needed) to get it to a SoCal port for the boat ride over.
Easiest thing, if you have one or know someone that does or whatever,
post up here or e-mail me and we can talk it over.
Looking forward to the tsunami of available rear ends!
