1987 944 S 5 speed stuck in reverse.

Hey. My friend had his 944 S 5 speed stuck in reverse, & he "popped"
it hard out of reverse, now he has only 2nd, & 5th gear sometimes. The
other gears aren't there, & they don't grind. It's like the shifter is
really loose now. I haven't looked at it yet. Is there any common
shifting problems with these cars? He doesn't race it, or drive it
real hard. Not sure on the KM, but about 200,000 KM, I think. Thanks,

most likely the bracket on top of the transmission has cracked. - replace it
